I keep finding different types of rocks at my local river and I'm all for it

Not sure what exactly they are but I love these two. One looks to be brecciated something like chert and the other is just a cool rock with deep smooth veins.

Local stores with reasonable prices do exist... In Japan

One day I want to get a bunch and send them for grading just for research purposes

Tsunami advisory has been issued for most of Japan's pacific coast south of Hokkaido, after an earthquake (8.2) in the Philippines.

It will arrive in an hour so around 12:30-13:00 in Honshu. Expected height 1 meter.

Black veins in this brecciated rock? Is this a chert tourmaline combo?

I've been finding these minerals for a while in a river in Shizuoka prefecture of Japan. The river passes through many significant tectonic faultlines. There is high heat high pressure metamorphic and also igneous rocks from volcanic activity. I polished a small piece in the past and it becomes almost like glass in terms of how it feels and the sound it makes when you gently hit two pieces together. Also the polished piece shows sort of a purple shimmer in the right sort of light conditions. TIA

Anyone else felt the earthquake near Aichi, Shizuoka?

Just wondering if it was out there in the ocean and if I need to do anything. Can't find it on NERV so it must be a small local one. Just wanna make sure is all.

Is this copper?

Collected the rock on a riverside in Shizuoka, Japan. The speck circled in the last photo shines in the sun .

Found in a riverbed in Shizuoka. It looked interesting to say the least. When I was polishing, the slurry turned reddish so I knew some streaks were hematite. Apparently this is one of the few regions in the world where you can find schist like this. Cheers
