My DIY arcade cabinet
I wanted this arcade cabinet to play game with friend.
I built this arcade cabinet at coffee table height, it's much lower than usual.
First, I made a 3D model in Autodesk Fusion. It's easier to adjust the height using 2D sketch concepts and parametric variables.
Then I built a plywood prototype with a simple design, but cool design, before moving on to Mid-Century Modern. The main objective was to test whether playing at coffee table height was comfortable and yes, if you can fit your legs underneath, it's comfortable. The other objective was to test whether it was stable enough. Then I made the control panel (with buttons and joystick).
I'm only using ash, which is currently the cheapest hardwood in France because of ash dieback disease ("chalarose du frêne").
I also sized the cabinet to fit a larger monitor than my current one.
It's currently very stable for normal use, but I definitely wouldn't put a cabinet like this in a public arcade area.
I'd also appreciate some advice on achieving good cable management.
