Another Warning about Game Room Solutions

Don't order from Game Room Solutions.

They destroyed their goodwill with me piece by small piece throughout this process. I should have done better research before ordering. Reddit, Facebook, and other locations have a lot to say about this place. The customer service person I interacted with most is identified by name in other online posts, which is hilariously embarrassing on her part. Their reputation is so terrible they directly address it on their page: "This is old news a lot of which is propagated through Facebook groups run by competitors."

The main takeaways:

  • The service where they design the artwork was terrible. First, they sent me a panel for the wrong game. Then, all they did was directly plagiarize some crappy fan art. I wound up mocking up something with AI in the end. They just used it almost exactly as I sent it. I should have asked for my $50 back.
  • I didn't realize why until late in this process, but their shipping choice for my APO address was trash. I did reach out prior to ordering. They were cool with everything and confirmed they would be using USPS. However, they shipped my panel via USPS Media Mail. This is likely fraudulent. It's an exceptionally cheap option that only allows educational materials and media like books, CDs, photos, software, etc. Game systems and hardware are very much not eligible. When told GRS were misusing this shipping method, she deflected, see below.
  • After acknowledging that the package had a "drop in activity" GRS supposedly made another panel but wouldn't send it until USPS sent the old one back. Huh?
  • I didn't receive the bat tops I ordered.
  • The quality is adequate, but not great. It came fully assembled. It could use more dowels.

Here's my back-and-forth for comedy and to show receipts.

-----

May 8 Order placed for a 4 player arcade control panel, panel only. Just over $500 with all the fancy buttons and parts. I was hoping to have it by early June for a birthday gift. I was so optimistic.

-----

May 10 through May 13

GRS:

Hello, here's our Gauntlet art. Let me know what you like :)

Me:

Terribly sorry, but Gauntlet and Gauntlet Dark Legacy are 2 different games. Dark Legacy has a much darker theme.

From my order:

Notes: I am looking for a Gauntlet Dark Legacy theme for graphics. T-Molding to match. Control colors (buttons only) to match the graphics, left to right, yellow, red, blue, green. I would like the joystick control tops to be black only, both round and bat.

GRS:

How does this look?

Me:

Not a huge fan of it, honestly. Joystick placement could get really awkward on the yellow Sorceress, as well as several other issues. I'd like to see something more like the original control panel.

Here is a quick AI design I threw together. I upscaled it and expanded it for trimming as well, if that helps. Let me know if the graphics don't come through and I can send them in another way. There are 2 images in this email, one of them quite large.

I would like a logo of some sort on the top center that works with the control layout as ordered. Launchbox has a clean logo.

https://gamesdb.launchbox-app.com/games/images/8247-gauntlet-dark-legacy

However, I DO like the side panel art. Especially if you were to upscale it for clarity in the print.

Thanks for your effort. I'm sure this can't be easy given there aren't a ton of high quality reference graphics out there.

GRS:

How does this look?

Me:

Great. Thank you.

Order #xxxxxx (May 9, 2026)

Can you look into this order/package? Normally, USPS packages take 1 to 1.5 weeks to get to me. It's been 3 weeks, and it looks like it's been stuck in Denver for nearly 2 weeks.

Thank you!

GRS:

The Postal Service is extremely slow. The post office will have to deem it lost and I do not see that they would do that just yet. Also it won't stop tracking at a certain point because you are in a military address So do expect that. I suspect that that's what is going on now but you would have to contact the USPS directly to get more information. Thanks so much and have a good day.

-----

June 15

Me:

Order number

This package was shipped 4 weeks ago and has showed Denver for 3 weeks. Please look into this order.

Previously, you said this was related to the post office being very slow and being a military address. USPS packages routinely make it to me in 1 - 1.5 weeks via other companies. Also, the transfer to the military mail system happens in either California or Illinois for a Pacific military address, not Denver.

Thank you for your help!

GRS:

I will have to contact them and see what the issue is. In the mean time we will start redoing the panel.

-----

June 21

Me:

Order number

xxxxxx

Please check on this order...

I’m setting a weekly alarm to check in with you every Monday. I look forward to connecting again same time next week for Chapter 5 of this saga.

GRS:

We are aware of the drop of activity on this shipment. We have the unit rebuilt we are simply waiting to hear from USPS to know exactly how to get the unit back. Once we have that information we will ship it.

-----

June 28

Me:

Happy Monday! As promised, my weekly alarm has gone off, and I am back for Chapter 5 of our ongoing saga.

Please check on your internal status for order number xxxxxx.

Also, as a fun side note for your shipping department: I noticed the original tracking was for USPS Media Mail. While I’m thrilled you consider a 4-player arcade control panel to be "educational media," the Post Office does not.

Looking forward to writing Chapter 6 next week.

GRS:

No it is government media and [MyName] I am doing my best.

-----

Side note: At this point my brother told me I should just chargeback. I told him I was too invested in their willingness to draw this out.

-----

July 3 - Package arrives at Post Office. It was shipped Media Mail. Still don't know what 'government media' is.

The printed label has a huge unprinted gap in the middle that affected the barcode. I don't know if this is USPS's or GRS's fault, but it's probably the reason for the drop in activity.

-----

Problems:

  • Didn't receive bat wing tops I ordered. Not worth the $16 to engage with customer service again.
  • There are no dowels between surfaces that butt against each other, but do not fasten together. This results in the front, back, and sides all being slightly wonky. I'm certain this will result in early fatigue and failure with use. [photo 5]
  • Joysticks were screwed in twice. I special ordered Sanwa sticks, so they probably installed the cheap ones first. This damaged the particle board with extra holes and reduces the life of the panel further.

-----

Final Thought:

Death by 1000 cuts with this company. Any one of these problems would have been fine in isolation. All together...

Control panel testing too far back. What did I do wrong?

I'm putting the control panel back on to my Sinistar cabinet and I must have done something wrong. I removed the latch to paint the cabinet, but that was a year and a half ago and I honestly don't remember if this is the correct latch, but I only have this one cabinet and these two latches are the only ones I found in the hardware pile. The hook on the control panel never came off.

When I latch the panel in place it has a whole lot of slack and the panel tiles back towards the player. I don't see any way of adjusting the position of the latch as the mounting holes are round and do not let the latch slide forward or back.

Any advice?

Edit: I screwed up the title. I should read 'tilting' and not 'testing'.

Wallpaper Wrap?

I am doing a custom countercade and thinking of wrapping the side panels with a custom wallpaper and then putting the graphic images over the top. So roughly 2” border around the edges would be seen of the wallpaper?

Imagine an outer space wallpaper with space ship artwork on top.

Anyone try anything like this? Results? Thanks!

Best upgrade brain box to replace a Raspberry Pi 4 in a homemade cabinet?

I would like suggestions on the best way to upgrade the computer in my arcade using something that is as close to drop-in as possible. 5+ years ago I built a custom full-size cabinet to run my favorite arcade games from the 1980's. At that time I used a Raspberry Pi 4b running Retropie and it was sufficient for the older games. But, its interface was clunky and it can't run N64 or more complicated stuff because it is too slow. What brain-box do you recommend and should I ditch Retropie?

To DIY build or not to DIY build

Ever since I saw Electric Starship's video on YouTube showing their custom 50" LED cabinet build years ago ( https://youtu.be/soamH-PgTW8?si=ECQHvVPH4Rcnqfyo ), I knew that I had to have one someday. I recently moved to a house with a massive garage so I finally have space to build and store an arcade cabinet. It just so happens that the sellers left behind a 58" Samsung LED and I have an old gaming PC with a GTX670 card that should be fine to run emulators. A couple of questions for the experts here before I tackle this:

-Can I inset a 58" LED deeply enough to make a playable all-in-one cabinet for 2 or 4 players? (I don't like pedestal or tabletop styles)

-I have a table saw, miter saw, circular saw, reciprocating saw, grinder, sanders, trim router and basic hand tools. I do not have a drill press, dremel, track saw, jigsaw or large template printer. Am I good to attempt this and make do with what I have, or what essential tools am I missing?

-I don't really like vinyl wraps and this will be a generic home use cabinet. Could I sand, stain and clear finish the plywood and just t-mould the edges and expect a decent looking cabinet?

-Where would I buy a plexiglass marquee that would be generic and not game title specific? Are there other solutions?

-How do you build in concealed caster wheels and then lock/brake them when we can't see or reach the wheels while upright?

-Is there a FAQ or guide for selecting and ordering parts ie. controls, wiring encoders, and audio?

Thanks again for any guidance.

Finding Arcades in Japan? We got you covered!

https://musecat.app/en

Hi everyone!

I’ve been building Musecat, a community-driven arcade database focused on rhythm games.

One of the biggest goals of the project is solving the long-standing problem of fragmented and outdated arcade information.

What makes it different?

  • 🌏 Available in English, Japanese, and Korean, (Chinese TBA)
  • 🎵 Strong focus on rhythm game arcades
  • 📍 Reliable information across Asia, especially Korea and Japan
  • 📸 Users can upload arcade photos
  • 🎮 View what rhythm games are inside an arcade
  • 🔧 Share machine status in real time (broken cabinets, maintenance, offline machines, etc.)
  • ✏️ Community edits to keep information accurate

It was always been hard to find reliable arcade information.

For example, if you look only at Japanese arcades that have maimai:

  • Musecat: 931 arcades
  • ZIv: 277 arcades

The difference isn’t because we’re counting differently.
We’ve spent a lot of time collecting, verifying, and maintaining arcade data.

One of Musecat’s primary goals is improving the issues that many players have experienced with existing resources like ZIV:

  • fragmented information
  • outdated entries
  • missing arcades
  • difficult community maintenance

Rather than being just another arcade list, I want Musecat to become a living database that the community continuously updates.

Today, Musecat already has:

  • 2,000+ registered arcades
  • 15,000+ registered game machines
  • 9,500+ community edits
  • 80,000+ monthly page views

Most of our current traffic comes from Asia, where the community is already actively contributing.

The long-term goal is simple:

Provide the most reliable rhythm game arcade information anywhere in the world, not just in Asia.

If you travel for rhythm games or regularly hunt for arcades, I’d really appreciate any feedback or contributions!

Apparently, my cat needed the cabinet more than I did.

I always thought cat furniture was ugly and bulky, and it never really fit my niche. I like games, collectibles, comics, and all that kind of stuff. The design always felt like a compromise—and an expensive one, too.

I went through several iterations, experimenting with different sizes, before landing on this one.

Once I started working on the final version, I got help from a friend who's a furniture maker specializing in custom furniture. He helped refine the design so it could be CNC-machined. That way, all the assembly holes are hidden beneath the sisal.

The joystick (not shown in this picture) is actually a spring wrapped in sisal, so it can survive being battered by our mildly aggressive cat.

FB Find - 1989 TMNT Konami turned into MAME back in 2001. Going to give it some life after all these years and make it my new garage project.

I am going to replace both the monitor and the marquee with new screens and run CoinOps in it with both older and some newer games.

Will completely redo the outside with custom TMNT art featuring some of my favorite cover arts from the series and going to build a new control panel bringing it back to 4 players with all LED buttons to match the 4 turtles’ colors.

Will also be putting 2 light guns on it as well.

What do you think of this idea and what drawbacks or issues in practicality do you foresee?

I'm playing with the idea of creating a fully enclosed gaming pod using a full sized derelict light aircraft such as a Cessna 172 with a completely gutted out interior, restoring it minus the wings, tail, and wheels. It would be used for the same things as that of a traditional gaming setup, office area, DJ booth, and more. Reclined seating for one, ventilation, sound proofing, drinks and nibbles dispenser, and a ton more features that I ha e detailed in a list. It would also be converted to a sectional frame so it can be disassembled for ease of moving house. Crazy? Or crazy enough to be a successful and unique mammoth project? Edit: thank you for your responses. Please try to keep responses candid, conversationally step by step, and answer at face value, appreciated. Please avoid data dumping.

Difficulty Hitting Clean Diagonals on My First Arcade Stick

I recently bought my first arcade stick, a Qanba Titan B1. This is my first time using an arcade stick, and I’m having a problem. When I try to move the lever to down-right, down-left, up-right, or up-left, it doesn’t always seem to register the exact diagonal direction. Sometimes it feels like it hits right or down first before reaching down-right, and when I return the lever to the center, it sometimes passes through down or right before becoming neutral. Is this a problem with the arcade stick, or do I just need more practice? Or could it be something else?

Any advice on finishing this cab I worked on back in 2019?

I attempted to build an arcade cabinet back in 2019, never got to finish it completely as life got really messy after. I know the sides of the control stick panel are still missing. This was meant to to be a 4 player arcade cabinet with a CRT tv connected to either a emulation computer or a Mister.

I dont remember exactly all the knowledge I had back then, but I also feel like I know other techniques that might have been better at the time. Getting CFS later on has kind of made my memories shot too.

I did use plywood. White burch I believe.

I drilled everything with self drilling screws from the outside, while wood glueing them inside to try to seal with extra strength. Including the bottom panel, the panel in the marque and top, and some wood pieces on the sides that are holding the panel where the TV will go.

Does that seem like it will work good?

Being able to be moved like this (giving it to my cousin), and being able to hold a big 28 inch crt tv? Never got to try that yet.

And what would be the best way to paint this specific material (whitebirch plywood) black and apply art to it?

Is it bad that I drilled the holes from the outside like that and the tops are sticking out a tiny bit? Will that interfere with whichever way of applying art? Any good art appliance method that would cover those screw head bumps and not be physically interfered by it?

And can still be applied even when the cabinet is already assembled?

Is it too late to get and apply T-mould at all?

Thank you!!

Help needed with button types

Howdy y’all! I’m building a cabinet, and it’s going to be fully made with 3/4” plywood, when it comes to buttons, would 30 mm screw in buttons like these work?

Arcade Cabinet Prototype

I started designing a hardwood arcade cabinet in March, but wasn’t convinced that I would be 100% happy with the design once I got it from the computer to the real world. Also, there were many techniques I’d never done before so I doubted I’d be able to get it right the first time anyway; so I built this prototype out of baltic birch plywood. I’ll use it for 6 months or so and then revisit the project.

Internally there is a ps5, a Samsung 37" ViewFinity S7, a small amplifier, 10 x 140mm fans (went overboard here, some brook boards to allow the arcade controls to connect to the ps5, a power relay, and a power strip.

Finish is Rubio intense black precolor, Rubio monocoat black, then n3 nano for extra protection/sheen.

Family Project - Arcade Cabinet - requesting information

Hi everyone, sorry for the long post, please take it as a challenge.

Scope of the Project: I want to build an arcade cabinet complete with everything for 4 player controls and 2 player light guns, to play with my wife and the kids (currently 5&3 yo). I have doing research for a month now, but the abundance of information is overwhelming and can't decide which is the best course of action.

As I am a diy fan, I am not looking for a complete cabinet to buy and want to build my own with everything purchased in Europe.

Resources available:

Regular tools, CNC machine, 3D printer, a PS3 with controllers(not used for more than 5 years but functional), 1 guitar and drums from guitar hero, 1 guitar from hero live. Additional resources will be purchased as needed.

Type of games and platforms: Basically anything and everything, not looking to play GTA5 on the cabinet but mainly multiplayer games on the same screen.

Goal: This is meant to be a multi-year project broken down in the following steps.

  1. Build the ecosystem, could be more than one, easy interface for the kids after setup.
  2. Build the controls and use them on my gaming laptop (Vector 17 HX with 4090 GFX)
    1. Read sanwa are the best. Please provide links with instructions or parts list.
  3. Buy or build the light guns, looking for good accuracy with no lag to be used with above mentioned laptop.
    1. Can't decide between RetroShooter, Gun4IR, OpenFire. Any recommendation is appreciated.
  4. Recommendations for best screen and it's dimensions to integrate in the cabinet for 4 players.
  5. In 2-3 years move everything into a cabinet and buy a dedicated PC or use the PS3.

I know this looks like a huge project, how would you do it based on the above information.

I appreciate everyone's support.
