“Foolish boy, you’ve chosen your own demise”

“Foolish boy, you’ve chosen your own demise”

Rewatching “Lake Laogai” and after Long Feng packs Jet up he states “Foolish boy, you’ve chosen your own demise.” Ultimately, condemning him for not conforming to the brainwashing. Just a couple of lines earlier, Aang breaks the brainwashing by reminding Jet that he’s a freedom fighter. I thought it was poetic that Jet’s story ends with him choosing
freedom. Long Feng fundamentally misunderstood Jet as a character - to Jet, freedom trumps any semblance of peace. In a broader sense, Long Feng is critiquing fighting against the Fire Nation entirely. To him, fighting for freedom is choosing death. Ba Sing Se’s entire system is built on the belief that survival and stability matters more than truth and freedom. The quote conveys his philosophy completely. I found this to be really good writing.
