AITA for telling my friend’s girlfriend why he suddenly stopped being allergic to dogs?
My friend has been dating his girlfriend for about a year. She had a dog when they met and he always claimed he was severely allergic. Not hospital allergic, but according to him being around dogs for more than a few minutes made his eyes swell up and messed with his breathing.
A few months ago she moved in with him and ended up giving the dog to her sister because of it. She was pretty upset but her sister lives nearby so she can still see him.
Last weekend we were at my place and my dog was all over my friend for probably an hour. Sitting next to him, licking his hands, the whole thing. No reaction at all. I asked him about it when everyone else went outside and he laughed and admitted he isn't allergic. He just hates living with dogs and thought saying that would make him look like an asshole.
Later his girlfriend mentioned how nice it must be that my dog doesn't trigger his allergies. I told her the truth.
She absolutely lost it. Apparently she went home and started packing. My friend called me saying I blew up his relationship over something that wasn't my business. He said the dog is safe with her sister and she can visit whenever she wants, so I created a problem where there wasn't one.
I'd actually been planning a trip with this guy later this year, so this is probably going to screw that up too, but I can't see how I was supposed to sit there and play along with that lie.
