I got a cargo bike. Please which accessories are must haves for daily longtail use.

Recently got my first cargo bike and have not picked any accessories yet. Brand has a kinda wide accessory list and honestly i am not sure which ones are like must haves and which ones are more like nice to have.

Budget is okayish but i really dont want to spend a lot of money on stuff that I wont use for more than 2 month.. So want to be smart with first rount.

For day to day... I will use bike for:

  • School runs with 5 year old (both ways and every school day)
  • Grocery shopping & for everyday errands 2 to 3 times a week
  • Once in a month weekend things (me and my husband or with our son)
  • Wont be using it for bikepacking or anything (for now)

We (family of 4) managed to replace our car (€20K) with cargo bike (€5K) . And dont feel like we are missing out or anything. Ama

Our cargo bike got delivered last month and we are kinda using it for everything that we used our car for. Right now I take it in the morning to drop kids off to school and then come back home. Then me and my wife both ride it and I drop her off to work (because no fuel or anything and I swear extra time on road (especially in the morning) make me feel so gooddd) and then I take it to drop kids off to their grandma's (in noon) and later in evening I pick them up from grandma's and my wife comes home on subway. On weekends me and wife go for groccery sometimes or one of us takes kids to park (while other one gets me time). For family trip we get an uber (but we are thinking to get another bike, so other one can ride that one) Life is simple and we enjoy riding bike. And honestly I can even carry heavy things on it too. I dont know how I was convinced to drive a car thats 4 time more expensive to mantain.

You can ask me anything about how we manage on 1 cargo bike as family of 4.

I am soo much in love with riding bike that lately I have been taking longer routes home. Anyone else does that?

I used to cycle (before getting married and having kids) and now I got a cargo bike. Before this I drove car for sometime, when my daughter was very young and back then all I wanted from bike was to go from one place to another and never wanted to spend more time on road (like everr)

But after getting this cargo bike, I am a different person now lol. Been taking longer routes home on purpose. Like I love taking river rout instead of main road. Also sometimes I just ride through park with my daughter. Like the point is to spend some extra time on road. So I am just wandering and dont even realise how much time passed and all.

I think its because on bike l am more like part of everything around me. I feel the air & notice alott of things which I never did in car , because I was only staring at brakelights. Even my daughter notices too. Like she used to fall asleep on every car ride but on the bike she's always up and keeps pointing at dogs (she loves them)and sometimes even wave at random kids in strollers. I checked the ride stats on the bike's screen the other day and we've done 2.800 km in 6months. I didnt expect that

So not using any shortcuts any more

Got my first cargo bike. Love riding it but feel cognitive load on road. Is it normal? Will a radar help?

Got a cargo bike (taran l1 S) about a week ago. Been riding it every morning to drop my kids (5 and 3) to school and preschool. I was really worried about riding a cargo bike uphill but the bike has a 100 Nm mid-drive motor and its been great on hills even with both kids on the back. It also has a dropper post, not electric but hydraulic, does the job for me when stopping at lights and putting feet down.

But despite all this I feel so much cognitive load when riding on roads. Like I love the bike itself but the constant traffic awareness is exhausting. I am always looking over my shoulder to check for cars. And those electric cars are the worst because they dont make any noise at all and I only sense them when they are almost on my tail. My kids are sitting behind me and I am soo worried all the time that a car would hit them from behind (God forbid). By the time I get to school I feel mentally drained even though physically the ride is easy.

People tell me I should get a radar like Garmin Varia but I am worried that it will just give frequent alerts for every car thats within particular ranges and add even more stress instead of reducing it. My bike also gives me the option to integrate a radar with the bike's system directly through its display. But that one uses a time-to-collision system along with distance. I like the idea of not needing to add aftermarket stuff to the bike but Idk which one would make more sense for me on road. Like give me real alerts nott alerts after every few seconds.

So I have 3 options and I dont know which one to pick. Do I integrate bike's time to collison based built-in radar? Do I get an aftermarket radar? Or just skip radar because some people said it will get better with time? Please help
