Cat and dog introduction gone wrong
A couple months ago I adopted a cat with some past trauma and it took me a few weeks to be able to pet him and he’s recently opened up a lot so I wanted to introduce him to my dog. My dog is good with cats he was raised around them and I’ve been slowly introducing them to each other. I live in a large room in my dad’s basement so I’ve kept my dog upstairs and I introduced them a few times by having the cat in a high place away from the dog in my room and so on.
Earlier today I had headphones in and didn’t hear my dog come downstairs so when I opened my door my dog ran in and the cat immediately freaked out and attacked my dog, the cat was wrapped around my dogs neck and my dog was yelping in pain. I finally got them separated and now my cat is completely on edge and freaked out and idk what to do:(
I feel horrible because I wanted nothing more than to give him a safe space and he was just starting to really feel comfortable in my room and let me pet him and even laying with me and now I feel like I’ve failed him.
