Extending NTC with Coax or Ethernet?
My HFC port (and thus NTD) is in an annoying spot at the front of the house. I want to centralise networking under the stairs as it’s a good spot for my rack and I can get good airflow, but this would mean relocating about 5 metres down the side of the house and either: A) ripping up the bricks or b) ugly conduit running along the wall.
I’ve already pulled Cat6A through most of the house using the old phone lines, but wondering what the best option for getting WAN back to my router is. I have a few ideas:
leave NTC where it is, and run Coax back to the rest of the gear inc. NTD. This way I don’t have to have the NTD seperate from router and switch
leave NTC, put a little access panel recessed into the wall with a fan for air, put the NTD in, and run Cat6A back to the central spot. Probably more reliable, but don’t want to put holes in the wall if I don’t have to.
suck it up and pay to have it moved.
I want to avoid inducing extra latency and unreliability, so unsure whether I should keep it coax or change to Ethernet for the long run back to the rack.
P.S. I’ll run fibre at the same time, so when I turn 70 and FTTP finally arrives I won’t have to run another
