What are the chances the NBN tech will install NTD here?

After putting it off for ages I finally got around to booking in the FTTP upgrade, I installed a new rack in the garage and ran a few new wired APs and even got a 3d mount to fit the new small NTDs. Tech is supposed to come tomorrow, but now I'm reading it has to be fixed to an internal wall? Anyone had any luck getting them to install in a rack?

How do I contact a real lerson

I'm going insane. I've just moved out and am trying to set up internet. I have applied to two providers one after another and both have told me that they are unable to set up internet to my property due to an issue with my copper line or something.

The first said that my copper line already had a phone line on it and I would have to find a way to cancel it myself otherwise I wouldn't be able to set up internet on it. The thing is, me nor the landlord own whatever phone line it is and have no idea how to cancel it.

The second provider told me that when they try to connect internet it comes back as an error and that I will need to contact NBN.

I've tried calling their phone line several times and every single option sends you to an automated message with no actual person to speak to. I don't know what to do at this point I don't want to wait 5 days just to get a response via email.

Extremely unstable wifi only in bedroom

As of the past couple weeks, my wifi, and specifically 5g quality has drastically dropped. I used to get over 200mbps down and now barely hit 30. My bedroom is directly down the hall from my router, 1 step outside and it is instantly 4 bars and stable, 1 step inside my room and its permanant 2 bars and contantly disconnecting. It will get stronger if i move further away from the router as long as its not my bedroom (hitting over 200mbps again when standing in kitchen, which is further from my router than my bedroom). My PC, Phone and TV are all having this issue. Nothing in the house has changed between having perfect connectivity and now. Does anyone know what could be causing this issue, why its suddenly happening now and how to fix it? Its becoming unusable

What’s next for the NBN

Last September the nbn increased the plans from 100/20 to 500/50 along with other high speed options

But what is next for the nbn that we have to look forward to?

NBN dropouts getting worse?

Telstra NBN is dropping out more frequently and for longer, then it works super fast for a bit. Is this normal?

New Router

I am on Telstra FTTP and have been using the Smartgen 2 router for ever, but now want a new router for better controls, so what is everyone’s recommendation for compatibility with NBN and Telstra?

And will I loose my Telstra landline if I ditch the Smartgen 2?

Thanks

2 years on Launtel FTTP + TP-Link BE550 zero dropouts, wanted to share a positive data point

Seeing a lot of posts about connection drops and speed issues, including some on FTTP, so figured I'd share the other side of it.

My setup:

RSP: Launtel

Connection: FTTP

Router: TP-Link BE550

In about 2 years on this setup, I haven't had a single dropout. Speeds have been consistent, no random disconnects, no peak-time slowdowns.

Not saying this to dismiss anyone else's issues clearly plenty of people are dealing with real problems. But I think RSP choice and hardware make a bigger difference than people sometimes give credit for, and Launtel doesn't get mentioned as much as the bigger providers. If you're in the market and deciding between RSPs, thought this might be a useful comparison point.

Curious if other Launtel/FTTP users have had similar experiences, or if I've just been lucky.

Is there anything wrong with a tp link ax5400 hybrid?

Can't find a lot of information online, seems to be something they sold via ISPs, finally moving over to a 500mbps plan after being on dsl for the past year and found one second hand for cheap, just wondering if it's worth it or if it's just not good. Thanks!

I'm out of contract with Optus NBN. I pay about $95 per month for 50Mbps download. Optus has a new plan with a discount for the first 12 months. I'm on Jobseeker payments. What's the worst that could happen if I can't pay my bill one month if I sign up to a new contract?

Just asking as a hypothetical question. I'm over 60, so I can top up my Jobseeker payments with an income stream from my superannuation policy.

EDIT: The new plan is the "Optus Fast nbn" plan and it's $79 per month for the first 12 months, $99 per month after that.

Internet cutting out everyday (FTTP)

I've had FTTP since January and it's worked perfectly fine until about late May where it began cutting out around roughly same time every day, usually at night.

I've changed ISPs, changed which WAN port I have my ethernet cable plugged into, tried rebooting it every night and factory reset it but it keeps on happening. Called the guys at Launtel and they pretty much told me my ARP latency was fucked. Anything I should try doing?

Fibre upgrade but slow to load web pages

So we took the plunge to upgrade to FTTP and it was a very easy, and quick. We’re getting 500/40 at off peak times and around 70/40 during peak. Everything works, but heaps of websites and platforms take 5-10 seconds to load, but not all the time. Once its loaded it goes great, no lag or random dropouts, but I launch Youtube for example, and it takes 10 seconds to load the content pane. I thought maybe its just 1 device we have that might be a bit glitchy, but I get the same issue on DTV, ipad, phone and laptop. Im with TPG if that makes any difference. I know its literally a 1st world problem, but I just expected fttp to be so fast and awesome with none of this type of bullocks.

EDIT - ignore the 2nd photo

Edit 2 - I restarted the ntd box and vwalalah - fixed

Got Fibre, Router Upgrade?

I had ADSL NBN with Optus modem/router. 3 ethernet cables to PC's and TV for reliable connection, and then the 4th into Google Nest Mesh Wifi. All working well. FTTP installed today and just plugged it into the Optus router. All good. Ethernet connected all getting 1gb down etc, wifi all stable and faster, not AS fast - but also not essential. Would upgrading the Optus modem/router to anything improve anything noticeable and if so is there a simple plug/play option for a novice?

PSA: If your NBN speed is mysteriously capped at ~100 Mbps, don't let them overlook the NTD

For the last two months I've been paying for a 500/50 plan with LeapTel but could never get more than 90–100 Mbps download speed.

I contacted LeapTel support five separate times. We did countless speed tests, tested directly from the NTD, swapped Ethernet cables, tried different devices, the whole lot. LeapTel kept telling me they could see my router syncing at 500 Mbps and even wanted to post me a test router (at my $50 expense for shipping), despite all the evidence suggesting the problem wasn't my equipment.

After a lot of pushing, they finally booked an NBN technician.

Upon arriving, the technician immediately decided the issue was "noise on the line" and spent the next two hours replacing cabling around my apartment. I mentioned that a speed cap of almost exactly 100 Mbps often points to a faulty NTD or its ports, but he dismissed that idea very quickly because "the orange light was flashing". He even insisted I switch from LeapTel to Aussie Broadband, claiming that would solve the issue.

After two hours of rewiring... my speed was still ~90 Mbps.

I insisted that the NTD be replaced, even though he initially said it wasn't the problem. He eventually swapped it out, left, and once it booted up my download speed jumped straight back to 550 Mbps.

The only thing that fixed the issue was replacing the NTD.

If you're stuck at almost exactly 100 Mbps on a plan that should be much faster, and you've already ruled out your own cables and devices, don't let everyone send you in circles. Ask for the NTD and its Ethernet port to be properly checked or replaced before spending hours chasing other causes.

Has anyone else had a similar experience?

EDIT: This is an HFC connection in an apartment building.

Does it cost money to install NBN to existing flat.

Technician said “he doesn’t usually tell people this but he could extend the lead from the box up to my sisters apartment for a couple hundred” doesn’t seem like a hard job because box is below the window. He said government doesn’t pay for it anymore otherwise going to cost thousands. Is he being dodgy?

$300 New Development Fee?

Hi everyone,

I've got a new property that I've recently built and moved into. Trying to sign up to NBN with various providers, I've found that they want to charge a $300 new development fee. This is fine, but my builder already had NBN techs attend the property and install the NTD box and complete the wiring. So my question is, do I still need to pay this fee? Or is it for something else aside from just sending a tech for the NTD?

Time from townhouse comms box setup to being able to order a service?

Thanks everyone who responded the other day. I’ve just got one more question. According to those who responded, the comms box out the front of our townhouse complex (pictured) now looks to be completed and the rest is just waiting to run the fibre and install the NTDs when the individual units order their services. Which we should be able to do once NBNCo “activates” our site. NBNCo gave us a completion date of June 30.

My question is, how long does it usually take from installing the comms box equipment to us being able to order a service? It’s been three days now since they installed the pictured equipment, but Leaptel and ABB still only show FTTN as our available connection type. We were hoping NBNCo “flipping the switch” after the install was completed would only be a 48hr wait or something like that.

Confused on what to do and how to get nbn

Hi guys, I’ll be moving into a rental soon and it’s a duplex, the lot itself is fttp however when I am on the nbn website it can’t find my address as I put in the unit number.

I’ve got permission off the realestate/landlord to proceed with me getting nbn connected.

I keep seeing talk to your internet provider and I’ve contacted Telstra and Optus they said they are unable to set up anything. So where do I start ? What do I need to do. For the mean time I will be setting up starlink but really don’t want that to be a permanent solution.
