Leaptel doesnt offer a retention rate?

I've just finished my discount period with Leaptel and I contacted them to see if they had a retention rate $ to stop me from churning to another provider but the person said there were no promos they could apply to my account and the only way for me to get a slightly discounted rate was to go to a provider offering a sign up discount.

Does this sound right?

If so, I'm on a 2000/500 plan, what other provider should I consider?

TIA!

EDIT: Spoke to Leaptel again and was told to message before this billing period is up to see if there is an active promo to apply to my account to provide me with a discount. If not, they said to churn to the new provider and provide my AVC and the cancelation will actioned immediately. Pretty good service! I'll try Neptune out next if there isnt a promo.

Advice on the best most reliable internet.

Hey everyone,

I’ve had TPG 5G home wireless broadband for about 3 years now. It used to be fine, but over the last month, it has become completely unusable. Streaming apps like Netflix, Disney+, and Stan are incredibly blurry, and everything constant freezes to reboot/buffer every 5 minutes. It’s driving me crazy, and even my wireless printer won't connect properly anymore.

I called TPG to cancel, and they tried to offer me a discount, but I’ve had enough. I live alone, don't game, and only have about three devices and three security cameras connected.

I’m moving over to fixed-line NBN at the end of this month.

My landlord has been dodging my emails about the $300 NBN New Development Fee, so I’ve decided to just pay it upfront out of pocket so I can get it done, and I'll fight them for reimbursement later.

Since I already have my own BYO modem, I just need a bring-your-own-device NBN plan. My hard budget is under $70 a month.

I’m looking for something affordable, highly reliable, and with decent speeds during peak evening hours (no more blurry screens!).

Would love to hear your personal experiences or expert advice before I sign up. Thanks in advance

Leaptel alternatives?

Does anybody know any good alternatives to Leaptel? I'm in the process of moving house at the moment & wanted to bring them with me, but they've said that I'll need to increase my spend from $69.95 to $80 for the exact same package (500/50).

I'm looking at TPG NBN 500 if anybody is using them?

Ethernet Network vs Router Upgrade

Apologies for long post but hoping to include all relevant info to get best advice.

Obviously, ethernet cable is better where possible but due to needing permission for permanent changes, I am seeking advice on options/solutions.

Nbn HFC 500/50 plan. Achieve 250-300Mbps on PC with 6e wifi card from an Telstra Smart Gen 2 modem router (wifi5) over wifi 5Ghz. 2.4Ghz on old laptop is 80-100Mbps for comparison in same area. Ethernet cables will run full 1000Mbps download (about 980 via 6a cable 30m).

Double brick house (internal mostly single brick but one double brick wall that may also impede signal) with neighbours all on similar tech and bands. Changing to less congested channel does not see any real differences.

Placement of NBN modem can't be moved (2 rooms away including brick walls) from living space (helps for tv/mobile devices anyway) and can get 400Mbps on ipad. All devices would be wifi5/6/6e compatible.

So asking advice on new router options where wifi 7 is wasted so leaning towards wifi6 router and wondering if triband would be helpful (seems only good for same room device) or just stronger 5ghz performance. I dont want Mesh set up as the second router would have to be next to pc anyway. Flint 2 seems a decent pick but open to other suggestions.

Alternatively, to get permission for some cabling to be installed from owner.

How would this work? 6-8 devices across different rooms cabled to a switch (in roof space??) and then just 1 cable from wall port to modem/router or would I need to get 8 port wall plate running all cables to switch (then patch cable to router) or all lines from wall direct in to router (need router with enough ports). Unfortunately there is no attached garage or similar to hide the ugliness away so trying to present an option that won't look too much worse than standard electrical wall plate.

Dont need full speed for anything other than large download files on occasion so existing temp cable along floor works but if a better router will beam wifi at same speed that may be worthwhile (my expense) or to explain future benefit of cabling (owner expense) I need to visualise and explain how it would look different to current set up.

So for the TLDR:

Will an upgraded router improve wifi speeds to 500 or closer to 1000Mbps if there are internal brick walls or am I getting max speed already?

How do I run ethernet cables between various rooms to single point at Modem/router without it looking like a dog's breakfast?

Thanks in advance for all help and if there is better sub for this with Australian specific advice, let me know.

Woke up to a red optical light, what could've cause it?

Hi everyone,

Provider on the way to fix it, but out of curiousity, what could be the reasons why it failed overnight?

Moving into new home with HFC backhaul. Can someone explain how this works?

Crossposting from whirlpool. I am building in QLD and have a HFC connection when checking via NBN. Still haven't yet moved in. I have a single powerpoint gpo and an ethernet port in the garage.

When querying with the builder they advised they supply a conduit with a draw cable for the NBN provider to run the necessary connection cable through. Depending on what is provided for the area, this will either be a coaxial cable or Cat 6 cable. (So this should be the coax cable)

They then say that the NBN connection box can then be plugged directly into the Ethernet port installed internally, so no coaxial port is required inside the property.

My question is do I receive an arris box? I'm confused at how this Powerpoint and ethernet port works with a hfc setup and what will be mounted on my wall as these wall ports are about 1.5m high on the wall. If anyone has any photos to show an example that would be awesome so I can understand how the hfc connection works for a new build.

I've only built previously and had FTTP which was a bit more straight forward with the NTD.

Bonus points if you have a relatively new build on HFC and could share some photos of your NBN setup so I can better understand what the final product will look like.

Just moved to Australia. Hardware Question

Hey everyone. Just moved to Perth from overseas and will be moving into a one bedroom apartment in two weeks time. I'm just now learning about NBN and I see my place is set up for it. I live alone and don't have a ton of devices but I do enjoy gaming on my Xbox and watching movies so I'd like to be able to play with as little latency as possible. It sounds like Aussie Broadband is a solid choice and I'm guessing their 500/50 plan should be good enough for what I need? I understand that 3rd party modems/routers are typically the way to go so as someone whose new to the country I'd appreciate any suggestions on what models I should take a look at..

Thanks very much in advance.

Neighbour asking to install NBN box on our side of property

Hi all

We have new neighbours who are installing NBN today. It's a brick built townhouse with part of the side of the property immediately on our side I.e. fence and then brick.

They have asked if they can run the cable on our side of the property through our pavers.

Is this common? Or potentially lazy work from the contractor.

Thanks

Update - have denied. They had asked to run 3m of cable through the brick wall/property boundary on our side about 40cm off the ground.

Made a free page that tracks NBN promo prices so you don't get stuck on the loyalty rate

I switch NBN providers every 6 months or so, because the new customer intro price almost always beats what you get moved to once the promo ends. Kept losing track of exactly when that switch happened though, so I put together a page that lists current NBN deals from most of the major providers side by side: promo price, what it reverts to, and the actual first year cost so you can compare properly instead of just looking at the headline number.

https://jrsdigital.net/deals/

It's free, no login. Built it because I wanted it for myself, and figured other people switching for the same reason would find it useful too.

I also built an Android app called PriceMinder that does the same promo tracking automatically, so you don't have to remember. Deals page works fine on its own without it though. Full disclosure, I used AI to help build both of these. Plan is to keep them free and open for as long as I can afford to.

Happy to take feedback on the deals list, if a provider's missing or a price looks wrong let me know.

Right now it's tracking NBN plans from Aussie Broadband, Dodo, Exetel, Flip, iiNet, SpinTel, Superloop, Tangerine and TPG. Which provider am I missing? Drop it in the comments and I'll add it, planning to update the list based on suggestions from this thread rather than guess what's out there.

Edit (15 Aug): shipped a bunch of stuff from this thread since I first posted. Added Leaptel, fixed the missing amaysim data, added Optus, More Telecom, Arctel, TPG and Purple Connect. Added CGNAT and 30 day notice badges per plan, each one links to the provider's actual Critical Information Summary instead of just taking my word for it. Fixed the tier filter so NBN 1000/100 and 1000/400 stop getting lumped together, there's now a second filter for upload speed when a tier has more than one option. Also added a "public exchange footprint" badge per provider showing which states they actually peer in, from one of the suggestions in the comments. Thanks for the feedback.

Next up: cleaning up the mobile plans tab and ultimately planning the bundled offers.

Update: Added a "365-Day Long Expiry" toggle so you can pull up all the annual packs in one click, fixed the billing cycle math so annual prices don't get miscalculated as monthly anymore, and added Telstra/Optus/Vodafone network filters.

NEXT Stop - bundle filter

Not another Superloop post!

-I play Counter Strike 2 from Perth.

-Iv had 2 servers with similar Ping, Sydney and Singapore (both around 50ms ping)

-we got a perth friend circle that play the game,

and we noticed me and my other 2 friends which are on Superloop the ping for Singapore is jumped to 190ms!

-We noticed our friends from other ISP in perth are not affected, there ping is still near 50ms for Singapore.

-All other aspects of the superloop connection working great like always.

Question: is there a Superloop routing or network channelling problem? Internet cables affected? If this is temporary or a long term issue and requires switching ISP?

Thanks for reading

Please explain -

New NBN line installed at our warehouse today. Contractors are packing up, finalising things by the looks of it.

One gets the measuring wheel out and walks from front path to where they’re working - maybe 20m - then stands in a spot and runs the wheel along the ground and lifts it so it keeps spinning in the air. He did this twice for about 20 seconds. That thing is spinning!

Then puts the wheel done, measure the next direction, takes notes then they leave.

So I ask - Did he just jack up the metres so he gets more on the job by letting the wheel spin?

2014 build house not on NBN Database

Parents moving into a new house in country NSW. The entire area has Fibre to the Premise (a shock, but true), but when typing the address into the system, it does not come up as an address.

Do we really have to get the original builder to add this in?

Good 3-4 ISP for churning 6 months offer rotation

Hi guys, hope you are well.

My landlord and I are thinking of doing the "6 months offer" rotation between ISP. Our 6 months offers with Superloop is about to expire, and we are thinking of jumping to Leaptel. However, we do not know what else we can jump afterwards. A bit on what we are looking for:
- Cost efficient ISP: stable connection, low lost during peak time for a nice budget

- We are using 50 Mbps at the moment so unless the 100 Mbps deal is so good, I dont think I can convince my landlord to pay more.

I have done my research in past posts and saw: ABB, Launtel, Neptune come up often. But it seems like they are a bit on the pricier side so I dont know where to go next. Thank you for your help and wish you all a great day!

SpinTel NBN ‘Refer-A-Friend’ Referral Code: IUFM74429

Hello fellow reddit peers,

If anyone is signing up to a SpinTel NBN or mobile plan and they add my refer-a-friend code, it would be most appreciated.

They have some great prices! I'm paying $39 per month for their Home Starter 25/10 Mbps NBN plan.

Referral code is: IUFM74429

Please note that you must put this code in at 'Refer a Friend' under 'Your Referral Code'. This is at the 4. 'Order Review' stage.

This is not the promotion code on the right hand side.

Thanks a lot. :)

Switching away from a provider I don't have access to the account of.

Hi! My household has been with TPG for a while but it has been under my mum's name. She passed away and so I've been paying for the internet subscription myself since then from her account but recently we've seemed to have lost her phone (which they send a verification text to in order to access the account) and cannot get into the TPG account to fix whatever issue they've decided is preventing internet usage.

So I was thinking of switching over to another provider (Aussie broadband I think I kept seeing is good?) but I'm not sure if that will automatically cancel the subscription with TPG or not and if I'd end up paying both unless I somehow convinced tpg to cancel that account and stop billing despite not being on the account in name and no longer having access to it.

Public Static IP with Private IP on WAN interface

I've recently added a new service with an ISP that has CGNAT by default.

When requesting for a static IP they did so but my WAN ip address remained the same, a CGNAT internal IP address.

I remember someone mentioning this, in this subreddit but I didn't know what they meant until now.

My question for those on the same network topology(?), is if this has caused any issues with anything? Either performance/speed/latency or setting up services.

I don't currently host anything except wireguard but I also don't want to be held back if I need to add something in the future.

ps. I haven't fully switched over to this new service yet so I'm just trying to get first hand experience before doing some testing on my end

Edit: Public IP is 103.x WAN IP is 10.x

HFC vs. FTTP

Hi All, was looking at the technology choice program to upgrade to FTTP from HFC. I get pretty decent speeds down (700Mbps) and up speeds suck. Latency is a bit ordinary but bearable.

The question - where are the benefits for the upgrade to fibre? It’s about 10k for the upgrade. I could probably spend 2-3k to upgrade the house network to WiFi 6 or 7. I’m thinking I’d get better bang for my money inside the house rather than getting fibre. It’s still tempting though 😝

Are there any better internet plans than Telstra?

Alright so I feel I need to specify I'm from the Yorke Peninsula (not specifying where but I'm not too far from Adelaide) so I'm not a city boy.

I've been staying down in the city for studies a couple days a week and the dorm I stay at while I'm there uses Superloop which is so much faster (little under 20ms-40ms when I'm playing games) compared to what I get with Telstra at home (60ms-100ms when I'm playing games). I understand that I'm in the city compared to being in the country but I've also heard from a few grape vines that Superloop is also just generally faster than Telstra. So that got me thinking: Would there be any better internet plans for my family to use? Or are we kinda just fucked and forced to use Telstra? Cuz I know that Telstra's got the biggest grasp on Australia's internet market.

I know I sound like I'm mainly doing this for myself for when I come back home (and truth be told it kinda is), but my family also complains about slow download speeds and whatnot, especially my mom (who works as a DJ on the side and needs to download multiple tracks to mix)

WNTD Version 4 - Ridiculous Latency Spikes

It's been around 6 months since we had the WNTD V4 installed and running on the ABB 400/40 plan. Since upgrading (really downgrade for us) from V3 to V4, the latency spikes have been out of control. NBN did come back and raise the receiver 3 meters, but these spikes persist. This never happened on V3, and speeds/latency were quite consistent. I am assuming these new V4 WNTD's switch back and forth between 5G/4G LTE technology, which is causing this. Any other ideas from anyone? We are only 2.4kms from the tower.
