How Would Michael Have Responded?

How would younger Michael have reacted if he could see his future self, and future actions in the Second movie? The reason I ask is because of an iconic scene

from the show The Clone Wars where Anakin was shown his future self from The Son, was horrified by his and the empire's actions, ergo turned to the Dark Side in order to stop the ensuing Darkness and bring Peace. So what would Godfather One Michael have done?

Michael didn't change the life changed him..

I feel like to say michael changed would be to discredit what we've seen of him in the first Godfather film. From his warm embrace of Tom, to his comforting of Theresa when Tom was missing, and I was reminded from a comment that Michael was very encouraging with Enzo when he needed it.

Michael definitely had the potential to be a Don, but he was not always a cold figure. I remember one quote I can't find by Coopola that basically said, things happened to Michael that transformed him into the Don.

So yes, Mike had the potential to be a killer. But that was more attributed to his calm demeanor and cunning mind. People forget Michael was a bit more boyish and compassionate at one time. Even in the Godfather book Carmella/ Mama can sense a change in Vito, something darker taking root. Vito wasn't always a dreaded figure and neither was Michael.

Michael Corleone's Coldest Moment

Michael Corleone's coldest moment has to be him watching Carlo get Garroted. Michael doesn't flinch, he doesn't move. Instead he calmly watches his Brother In-Law get strangled to death. Then he walks away. There is work to do.

Michael's Withdraw from Confrontaion

Something I've noticed is Michael is not confrontational when it comes to conflict in his family. From distancing himself from his father, to Kay and avoiding her after the hit on thier bedroom, to not wanting to hear about his son's problems, and isolating himself from Fredo and everyone else at the funeral by presiding in the Boat House. And at the end we see Michael staying away from his family during the birthday party, not wanting to face them, or thier differing views and lifestyle. Then suddenly announcing his enlistment and then staying behind. Alone.

This also comes out in how he deals with enemies by moving silently in the background until the time is right. It's as if Family Strife has become another enemy to Michael. Avoidance then sudden confrontaion.
