I built a free app for the Triangle that pulls 400+ local events into one place! Wanted to share it with the community
Hey r/raleigh! Long time lurker, first time poster. Wanted to share something I built for the city and get some honest feedback from people who actually live here.
How many times have you asked "what's going on this weekend" and ended up bouncing between Eventbrite, Google, Facebook Events, and random venue websites just to piece together what's happening? That's exactly why I built The Move.
themove.events is a free web app that pulls 400+ events from Eventbrite, Ticketmaster, Posh, and local venues across the Triangle into one place. Music, nightlife, food, sports, arts, tech, health, community, all of it, updated regularly.
Here's what makes it different:
- Interactive Map: see everything happening around you visually, not just a list. Tap a pin, get the details. Tap the crosshair to find events near your current location.
- Category Filters: only into live music? Just food events? Filter it down in one tap instead of scrolling through everything.
- "Now" Filter: shows only events currently in progress. Spontaneous plans friendly. (Still adjusting this feature as I just implemented it, since all events don't have end times listed. Use the 'Today' filter if you want to make sure you don't miss anything happening today)
- Event Details: each event shows pricing, date, time, venue, directions, and a "You might also like" section with related events nearby.
- Add to Calendar: Google Calendar or .ics download, one tap.
- Favorites & Voting: save events you want to attend and vote up the ones the city needs to know about.
- Push Notifications: opt in to get notified when new events drop.
- Dark mode: because we're not animals.
- No app download. No account required. Just open themove.events on your phone and start exploring. (iOS & Android apps are coming soon though!)
Raleigh has way more going on than most people realize...the problem has always been that the info is scattered everywhere. The Move puts it all in one spot.
Would love to hear what you think, especially from people who actually use it. Drop feedback in the comments or DM me directly! Still building this week by week and genuinely want it to reflect what this city needs.
