States Decadal Growth (GSDP) party-wise

Real GSDP growth by state, 2014-15 to 2024-25.
Source: RBI Handbook of Statistics on Indian States 2024-25 (Table 22, constant 2011-12 prices).

- Each bar is split by how many months each party held the chief ministership over the ten years concerned

- Segments show time in office, for e.g., a party filling 40% of a bar governed for 40% of the decade

- Dotted line is the weighted aggregate of these states (81%), dashed is the median state (76%).

- Gujarat and seven smaller states/UTs are absent because the RBI table has no 2024-25 figure for them

- J&K shown separately because 2019 state reorganisation breaks the series and no Ladakh data to bridge it

India vs Emerging Markets GDP growth rate 1980-2026

Notes:
The blue shaded area marks years when India's GDP growth exceeded the benchmark; red marks years when the benchmark grew faster. The bottom panel integrates these areas per Indian government: for each year, the growth gap (India minus benchmark, in percentage points) is summed over that government's tenure — blue bars are the accumulated years India was ahead, red bars the accumulated years it was behind. Units are percentage-point-years (e.g., +36 means India out-grew the benchmark by a cumulative 36 points across that era). Since the data is annual, the "integration" is a simple year-by-year sum.

IMF's "Emerging Market & Developing Economies" (EMDE) aggregate — all ~155 economies not classified as advanced — with India's own share removed so it isn't compared against itself. Includes China, Brazil, Russia, Indonesia, Mexico, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, all of developing Asia, Latin America, Middle East, and Africa. Excludes the US, Western Europe, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, Hong Kong, Australia.

Accumulated Growth India vs China 1978-2026

The area under the curve is the discrete integral of the growth differential D(t) = India's growth − China's growth, computed year by year. Since the data is annual, each year contributes exactly D(t) × 1 year, so integration reduces to summation — no interpolation between points. For each Indian government era, the yearly differentials were split by sign: the positive AUC is the sum of D(t) over years where India grew faster (the blue area), and the negative AUC is the sum over years where China grew faster (the red area); their sum gives the net. The unit is percentage-point-years (pp-years) — e.g., the UPA era's −35.2 means that across 2004–13, China's growth rate exceeded India's by a cumulative 35.2 percentage points when stacked year on year. The tie year 2014 (both at 7.4%) contributes zero to either side.
