Image 1 original NCT Fail
Image 2 second fail today
Hi all, would love to hear your thoughts on this one.
I have a 1990 Mercedes 500SL (R129). First failed in March on steering drag link ball joints. To which I replaced drag link, damper and track rods as to he fair, they were shot, but it took a long time for parts to arrive so I missed the retest.
I requested priority list and got my NCT full test again today, after waiting around four weeks.
The tester has now failed me on rear suspension. I asked what exactly the problem, and he said it is too old. Given the car is over 36years old I said of course its old, what it the problem?
He said to replace the rear suspension, which could mean over 20 or so parts which I will not be able to have delivered and fit myself in four weeks, given previous experience last month. I took it home and had a quick look with limited light and see no problems yet, other than yes it looks old.
What are my options here. Is there a way to contact the centre and request exactly what the issue is, as i genuinely have no idea what they have failed. The suspension linkage system comes as a 5part set, will I replace just that, and only on the side that failed?
I couldn't believe it when they failed it. Why didnt this issue come up on the original test a few weeks ago? I understand a different set of eyes might see something new, but this test felt odd. They had the car for just under and hour on the ramp itself, and at one point there were four lads looking at it.
Appreciate all comments!
