My four-year-old attends preschool where they have a hour and a half nap time in the middle of the day.

My daughter absolutely does not need to nap. On weekends or holidays she does not nap at home and she’s happy and agreeable until her 8pm bedtime. During the week when she naps at school, she does not fall asleep at night until 10:30, which to be perfectly honest is after the time that I would like to be asleep.

While the teachers at school will not force her to nap and will let her look at books or play quietly on her cot, if everyone else is napping, and the room is quiet, and there’s music playing she seems to get bored enough where she falls inevitably falls asleep.

I have raised this with her teachers, and they said I can bring more interactive stuff for her, but, since from their perspective she’s not disruptive and she eventually falls asleep, they’re not really seeing the issue. I’m trying to figure out some slightly more interactive activities she can do quietly by herself that will keep her engaged enough to at least limit the amount of time she’s sleeping in the middle of the day. I welcome any thoughts or suggestions.

Before anyone suggests it, this is otherwise a great school, she’s well cared for, learning a lot, and it’s what we can afford. So we’re not in a position to switch to some other sort of daycare or hire a nanny.
