I've been using Notion for about 7 years consistently now, I love it and I haven't found anything else that scratches all the itches that Notion does. In all this time, the AI features have had zero traction with me. When Notion first added AI features a few years ago I tried them and they sucked. So I stopped. I tried last year with some changes and they sucked. Now Notion has become so AI-forward that "New Chat" is the default option before "New Tab".
After learning over the past few weeks to just habitually press the down arrow to skip past "New Chat" I decided today to give Notion AI a try again since it had been a while. So I opened a new chat to do what I wanted to do in a new tab, which was to create a page with a reminder, i.e. "Cancel Amazon Prime @ remind tomorrow". So I typed in the chat, "remind me to cancel amazon prime tomorrow". It took about 30 seconds of thinking and then created a page that just said "Cancel Amazon Prime tomorrow" without any reminder. 🤦
I just don't get it. This is the same experience I've had every time I try Notion AI. It's just always an underwhelming train wreck from the get go. Like, if you're going to try so hard to shove AI down our throats then at least get it right. And I'm not AI-illiterate. I use Claude and Claude Code and other AI tools regularly, I know AI has quirks. But Notion AI is a joke. Meanwhile it's been 7 years since I started using it and they still haven't added the simplest quality of life features like recurring reminders.
The day is coming when a competitor will put this misled company down.
