Winston or Russell?

Hi! This is our baby that my bf and I get June 5th. We’ve been pretty set on Winston but recently came across Russell and are pretty torn. He’s an English black lab!

Shampoo and conditioner recs

Hi :) I get my 8 week old English lab the first week of June and have been getting all of his necessities. Does anyone have any good recommendations for gentle shampoo and conditioner? I’ve looked into Earthbound unscented oatmeal & aloe shampoo and conditioner but wanted to hear what others have to say before I get it! Thank you :)

My bf and I will be getting an English lab puppy this June. We’ve been doing soooo much research on different training methods and he really likes American Standard K9’s videos. We both agree that we want our dog to be well trained from the get go. Heel, recall, stay, down, etc. The only thing is that he thinks we should use a prong collar when teaching leash pressure and teaching him how to walk alongside us for corrections. He does not want to hurt our dog at all and says that it’s for the safety of him since the flat collar can pull harder on his trachea rather than a soft pinch. I’m worried that ASK9’s videos are too harsh for such a docile dog like a lab. I see that his methods do work but I’m curious as to what others have to say. This is my boyfriend’s first puppy and he’s very eager to train an obedient dog. I’m just nervous about him being all in on ASK9 videos since so many people have mixed reviews on him and his methods. Thank you :)

Edit: my main fear is being too harsh on our puppy training wise that it causes irreversible damage. and by harsh I mean by using aversives like a pop on the leash or scruffing him when biting. We want the training to mainly be +R but I’m just stuck!

Edit 2: thank you so much for all of the insightful responses! We talked & I think I was just a little overwhelmed thinking that just because he was pro prong, that it was going to be fully aversive training for our puppy. He clarified that he doesn’t want to start the puppy with a prong and that we don’t want to ever have to use it and I think I was just trying to absorb all of this different training info before getting this puppy that I was overcomplicating it. Once we get to know our dog, we’ll know how to train him best. +R training with food as the motivator and then if ever in the future if it’s needed (which it probably won’t be because he will start training day 1 with +R), we can use light corrections. I’m excited to bond with our new baby and discover each other.

Hi everyone :) this June, my bf and I will become first time lab owners (black English lab). This will be the first dog I’ll own myself as an adult (22f) so I’m super excited! Growing up living with my family, we’ve always had dogs in the household but they were usually some form of mastiff/bulldog/pit. Right now they actually have a maltese ironically lol. I don’t live with them anymore and have been feeling the absence of a dog in my daily life for far too long. I was wondering if anyone had any tips or anything that I should know. Thank you :)
