Implication that Sloan abused his wife and that's why she 'fell' from the falls?

I was thinking back to when Eragon enacts his punishment upon Sloan and in his stupor Sloan moans "only a piece of rope, I didn't mean to" along with the name of his wife and then begins to beg someone not to do something.

I've always taken this to mean that he beat her, even if only once, and that is why she jumped. I've also always assumed that she jumped although I guess that theory doesn't have much textual evidence. What do you guys think?

My fiance has such expensive taste!

We are wedding planning on a pretty tight budget, trying to keep it under 12k. However this is entirely due to my thrifty self!

My fiance is looking at castles, manor houses, places that will include a hotel room for half your guest list. He wants to spend the wedding night in the fanciest hotel in the city. He wants a groom fit that runs 1-2k alone.

We aren't at odds on the budget, he's very on board with trying to keep costs down. He just seems to have no idea what anything will cost. He keeps calling me to say things like 'bad news babe, the fairytale castle has quoted me triple our budget'. I keep having to bring his expectations back to planet earth.

He doesn't just want a sit down dinner, but a completely open bar as well. I'm lucky to have a groom so excited and so involved in wedding planning but I wish he was a little more realistic!

(10k) wedding, early stages of planning, venue issues

I truly don't know how to get this wedding under budget. I've cut everything i can think of. I'm not having florals, getting a costco cake, my dress is a £200 second hand find from stillwhite, haven't even touched the idea of a professional photographer but the thing that's getting me is the only two non negotiables: venue and food.

I've spent weeks googling venues, I've tried every quirky or alt type building you can think of, from barns to barrooms to a literal cave. Along with all the more traditional options. Everywhere is a minimum of 6k for room hire alone without furniture/linens etc. Most have required caterers and not a single one has quoted me less than £90 a head even for buffets. I'm planning on aprox 80 guests which I realise is not small but I see people on here throwing weddings of that size with sit down dinners for 6-8k. How? How How How are you doing this? I'm going mad!

Edit: I live in Edinburgh, Scotland so outdoors isn't really feasible

I'm a policy officer HEO currently considering my career path and what skills I have that I might use to advance. I have been learning British Sign Language for 3/4 years now and I'm decently conversational. However I'm struggling to think of career paths where this might be useful. I'm not interested in caring/teaching roles, I would like to remain office based and I'm nowhere near interpreter level. I'm really struggling to think how I can utilise such a niche language aside from a very specific outreach type role.

Anyone who is multi-lingual on here, how do you use your other languages in your role and what level/proof of proficiency does the cs require for you to do so?

My fiance and I are planning our wedding. We are going very low key, just the registry office and then a traditional cultural dance with our friends and family. The thing that is driving me wild is that not a single venue seems willing to name their prices on their website. Not even ballparks. They require you fill out a stupid form, and then they send you a brochure with average prices that they could have put on the website in the first place.

What is the logic here? It is meant to signal exclusivity? Are they hoping that making me spend 5 minutes filling out their little form will make me willing to spend 10k above my budget? I feel as if I'm being manipulated somehow but for the life of me I can't figure out what customer psychology they are going for with this. Is it just to get ahold of my email? Trying to hide add-ons that they'll push on me later?

It's not the first time I've run into this either. Hairdressers. Dentists. Music teachers. This tactic has become ridiculously commonplace.

Edit: these forms aren't asking guest counts or dates or anything that would actually be needed to provide a specific quote. They want my personal information. And then send me a generic quote list anyway.
