best tips/advice to maintain a high gpa for eng 1

Hey everyone,

I’m an incoming McMaster Engineering first year with a 97.8% high school average and unfortunately i was rejected from waterloo as admissions for EE this year were insanely competitive, and I’m considering trying to transfer into Waterloo Engineering (SE/ECE) or possibly CS after first year, still exploring which is my main option and will be decided by end of the summer.

I want to understand the process realistically before I commit to a plan.

Main questions:
How realistic is a transfer from McMaster Eng → Waterloo Eng or CS?

What kind of first-year GPA is actually competitive

Is Waterloo CS transfer from engineering basically impossible, or does it still happen?

What matters most besides grades (projects, ECs, internships, etc.)?

For anyone who’s done it — what was your GPA + outcome

I am hoping to get my masters down the line anyway so i will be doing my best to achieve a 90%+ in uni.
