What’s the moment that makes you realize you stayed up way too late?

Have you always preferred being awake at night, or did work, school, or your lifestyle gradually make you realize that nighttime is when you feel your best?
This has been happening for the past two nights. As soon as I close my eyes and try to sleep, my body starts feeling hotter and hotter, and then I begin to sweat. I’m just lying still, but I can’t fall asleep.
The strange part is that when I open my eyes, the heat and sweating gradually go away. But then I lose the feeling of being sleepy for a while. This usually happens two or three times before I finally manage to fall asleep.
Has anyone experienced anything similar? Did you figure out what was triggering it, or find anything that helped?
