I watched Mirch Masala (1981).
The first thing which I would like to say is that put all contemporary female centric movies on one side and this movie on one side. One effective feature of it was the way it looked, colourful, vibrant, Indian, rich and most importantly Real. Feels really refreshing to watch a movie with no VFX, CGI, heavy BGM, artificial sets, etc. There was a very precise and loving use of music and the bgm too added depth whenever it was used. What was really surprising is that I witnessed a good number of actors in their youth age, whose presence in current day movies defines the movie to be artsy for sure. As the movie moves towards its climax, the conflict intensifying, the fear rising, the quiet hope that everything will be somehow sorted one way or the other, and this hope shattering. The dialogue part of this film has done the real wonders in the second half. Every single line feeling like a lesson to remember for life. The best part is, it really shows human characteristics regardless of gender, i.e., how everyone is flawed and how the society actually works. This was the first movie of Smitha Patil which I watched and I'm definitely going to watch more of her movies. 9/10 and a must watch.
