A bit of a vent about AceSpace (and a question for my aces out there)
So I just created an account on AceSpace, and I was very surprised to see that one of the rules on the platform is to keep politics to a minimum, and it just rubbed me the wrong way.
Now I get that as an activist, I might be a little too invested in politics, and I see why keeping it to a minimum creates a safe space for all to wind down.
What I don't get is that (to me at least) being asexual (whether aro or not) is already inherently political, since it clashes with a lot of prebuilt societal principles such as the nuclear family, romantic capitalism, patriarchy and consent (basically social expectations around romance and relationships). I feel like the more we speak about those things, and about what needs to change, the more we'll actually be able to create positive changes for ourselves, and even to non-ace people in the end. So I guess it just feels frustrating to me to see that these questions and ideas should not be mentioned because they could be divisive. Because to me they just seem positive and constructive and should not be avoided (because I feel like not many aces would seem bothered by more freedom and less judging when it comes to building a relationship or to just live their lives like they want to).
I'm not trying to say that everyone should be political, but I'm genuinely curious to hear how others feel about this ;
So here's the question I wanna ask : Would you guys consider yourselves political ? and would you agree with me when I say that asexuality already gets political in itself ?
