You do need some luck to hit that 20% chance but things get crappy fast

Items:
Shovel - A melee attack that lobs a unit back 2 tiles and digs up a corpse.
Death Shroud - When you're downed, permanently gain +1 to a random stat.
Bulletproof Vest - Injury immunity
Death Mask - Get downed at the start of each battle, then revive at the end of the first round with full HP and +2 shield
Abilities:
Reanimate - Resurrect a body to half HP. It becomes a Zombie and joins your team.
Sacrificial Lamb - When you're downed, allies gain All Stats Up and take an extra turn.
The biggest downside was that allies didn't gain an extra turn when this cat died but that's probably because it happened at the start of the first round.
This guy carried my team right to the Creator fight where an unearthed Gatekeeper stole The Child's soul for a quick win.
