Why don't more students from Kerala study Marine Science and related fields?
Marine scientists help the environment and the community. We get to help the environment through research and conservation activities. We also have the opportunity to support coastal communities by assisting them and conserving commercially important marine animals. Marine Science and Scientists contribute towards replenishing marine resources and ensuring food security for the people.
Kerala has a long coastline and a lot of Marine resources. Fisheries plays a huge role in supporting our economy, especially through export. There's a lot of pharmaceutical potential and under explored Marine Organisms. Not to mention climate resilience and the conservation of hundreds of aquatic ecosystems that we depend on everyday.
After getting into this field I was surprised to find out that only a few people were involved in this particular field. We have a lot to protect and fewer hands to do it. Please consider studying Marine Science or a field related to it.
