Question about herd management in WoTH

Hello everybody

After The Hunter Classic - a game i have played for more than a decade - unfortunately is set to disappear this fall, I have been looking at other hunting games to fill the gap. I have started playing WoTH 1 and so far enjoys it quite a lot. Especially the Herd Management, which I find the most interesting addition compared to The Hunter Classic.

I am slowly getting the hang of the main principles in herd management, but have a few questions as to the mechanics. I am in Nez Perce valley and at the moment i am mostly just roaming around, finding the different sites and identifying different herds of animals, but just shooting the occasional one until i have the full picture.

Question 1 - shooting the right males

When locating a herd i usually check the males for age and trophy quality. If there is an adult or mature male with a 1 star trophy rating, i will usually try to take that one out, with the mature males getting priority. Usually those males will also have a relatively low genetical score. I did however shoot an adult male white-tailed deer with a one star trophy rating, but it did have a genetical score og 67,74. I believed that deer with better genes would generally get higher trophy ratings, when they reach adult and/or mature age?!? Was that a bad animal to take out?

Question 2 - Shooting the right females and herd size

I generally do not shoot females in the herds unless there are few males in the group and I find a mature female. This should make "room" for younger animald - both male and female. On herds of deer i go for around 2-3 males and the rest being females. Am i on the right track with this strategy for herd size management?

Any other tips or pointers for herd management in WotH?
