Italian Med Student Interested in Emergency Medicine – Advice on Specializing and Moving to Australia?
Hi everyone,
I’m an Italian medical student interested in Emergency Medicine (MEU – Medicina d’Emergenza-Urgenza) and I’ve been seriously considering the possibility of moving abroad for a period, especially to Australia, although I’m open to other countries as well.
I would love to hear from people who have experience with this path, especially doctors or medical students who moved abroad. I have a few main questions:
- Is it generally better to complete specialization/residency in Italy first and then move abroad, or is it better to specialize directly in Australia (or another country)?
-How difficult is the process of moving there in terms of degree recognition, licensing exams, bureaucracy, visas, and all the practical steps involved?
Any general advice about this path—whether specifically about Australia, Emergency Medicine specialization, or working abroad as a doctor—would be really appreciated.
I’d be grateful for any personal experiences, tips, or honest opinions.
Thank you all in advance!
