My experience switching from NovoRapid to Fiasp
Before, I was using NovoRapid as my main rapid-acting insulin. It worked fine, my sugars were perfect, and my compensation was amazing, but I had to wait 20-30 minutes before every meal. When I got Fiasp (by a pharmacist's mistake), I tried to use it, but at first, I kept going back to NovoRapid. Fiasp felt so... strange. Sometimes it felt like I was just injecting water. For example: my blood sugar was 126 mg/dL before a meal, I did the math, and injected 8 units for 48g of carbs. After about 2 hours, my blood sugar went up to 210 mg/dL and just stayed there on my CGM graph (I'm using Dexcom One+). But after about 5 hours, it finally dropped back to 110-130 mg/dL. However, after about a week of using Fiasp, this problem disappeared, and everything started working fine. Right now, I only wait about 5-10 minutes before a meal, or I inject after the meal if it has more fats.
Minuses I found in Fiasp:
1. It still works strange sometimes. 🤔 | When I eat, my blood sugar sometimes goes up to 180 mg/dL, stays there for an hour, and then crashes to a very low level in just 15-20 minutes. But IDK if it's happening because of stress. I've been stressing a lot for the last half-year, so I think it might be correlated.
2. It's hard to find in pharmacies; you need to order it. 🤥 | I can't find Fiasp in stock at local pharmacies, so I have to order it and wait 2-3 days. It's not a huge problem for me, but if my insulin gets ruined, I will have to go to the hospital or ask other diabetics for help to get a pen.
Pluses I found in Fiasp:
1. it works much faster than NovoRapid (or its actual name NovoSlow 🥱). | Even though it acts strange sometimes, other times it helps a lot. I can eat like a normal guy and not worry that my sugar will go ↑↑↑ after every meal. Also, corrections work better because Fiasp starts working faster, so I spend less time in the high blood sugar
2. Time In Range (TIR) got better with Fiasp. 😇 | I'm getting a much better TIR. Even when I eat away my stress, Fiasp helps me not to spike too fast, which saves my eyes and legs in the long term.
----------------------------
That's all I wanted to say. In the end: Fiasp is a great insulin with a very fast action time.
What is your experience with Fiasp if you've used it?
