Pillow Foot!

Hi everyone!

I have a cat:
Male, 3 years old exactly, up to date with vaccines and had the snip!

He’s quite an anxious cat and was very sick when I found him under a bush when he was 6 weeks old. He had various eye infections, ear infections, severe gastrointestinal issues and actually flatlined and needed resuscitation!

Since then he’s been fine just a bit anxious and so very attached to me! He’s on a grain free food and eats a mix of wet and dry. He’s also always had red, itchy and then scabby patches above his eye and below his ear. It was a vicious cycle of him scratching, it heals and then gets worse again.

He’s now been diagnosed with pododermatitis which I know is an autoimmune condition. He’s an indoor only cat, uses unscented litter and has his box cleaned frequently in the day!

The vet said it could be allergies causing the condition to begin with, none of the vets at our practice have seen pillow foot firsthand. He’s on 5mg of prednisone twice a day and within the first week we saw a visible difference but since then it’s levelled off and his paw has since got purpley coloured on and off and it’s still cracked and slightly puffy. I’m gutted that progress is so slow and wondering what allergies may be contributing to this?

I should note that since starting steroids, his head itching has stopped entirely!
