Hi,
I've seen a few posts on this, but I don't think any of them fully describes my problem.
I drive a 2010 Kia Ceed 1.6 cvvt. I quite like it.
The only issue is with the steering. It feels fine driving on streets inside the city, although the wheel maybe a little bit lazy coming back to the center position, but nothing annoying.
The problem comes at highway speeds, when the steering wheel is mostly in the center position, and small corrections are needed in order to remain in the lane. It feels like the steering gets stuck on a position when the wheel hasn't moved for a couple seconds. When you apply enough force for the wheel to move it, it gets "unstuck", but the force applied is a little bit to much and it leads to oversteering, and subsequent necessary correction. If the wheel is constantly in movement, it doesn't happen at all.
Also, when there's a soft curve on the road and the wheel is fixed in a very light turnin position (let's say 5° or so), I can take my hands off the wheel and it remains in said position until I nudge it back.
Its not undrivable at all, neither feels dangerous. But it is indeed very annoying, and a couple hours of highway can make me very tired since there is a lot of my attention on the wheel constantly.
Alignment is perfect. I know this cars have some problems with the electric power steering system. I've been to a couple of mechanics but the issue seems difficult to replicate without driving for half an hour in a highway, and the OBD doesn't show any codes. It feels random, and since the problem is quite subtle, sometimes seems more noticeable than others.
Is there any known problems in this regard? I've seen some posts about Hyundais i30 and others that use the same power steering system, but no solutions.
I'd gladly change the EPs system if that's the culprit, but I don't want to start changing expensive parts just to check if it fixes the problem.
Thanks so much in advance for any help!
