Ideal Radiacode for spectrometry and detection of lower level sources?

Hello everybody,

Which device is correct for me? I do have some higher level sources – nothing particularly crazy, just a few radium painted clocks – but what I’m looking for is something that can detect these and do spectrometry on these, as well as on lower level sources. Basically, so that I can have the device in my pocket when I go on hikes and such with my fiancé and detect the very small levels of stuff that we might encounter near radium mines or even just generally in nature. I’m not looking for extremely high resolution here as I know that might not be possible with such a device.

I’m fairly well-versed in the theories of radiation, and I am starting a nuclear engineering degree in about a years time, so I need something that is quite scalable because I would like to buy this device and then not need to buy another one in future.

Thanks a lot for helping me – it’ll be nice to have a device that isn’t military surplus from 40 years ago.

Using glass heads on helmets?

Hello everybody,

I have some extremely rare helmets, and planning starting an exhibit for them at a local museum. Some of them have neck collars for pressure-bearing components, and some are regular hardshell helmets with cloth liners. The previous owner of some of these helmets used rubber heads which caused shed and damage, so I’ve moved them to glass heads.

My theory is that glass heads are chemically inert and very low friction, but I’m worried about them causing some kind of damage that I’m not yet aware of. Perhaps relating to pressure points? They seem smaller than human heads, yes, but I can’t think of any way around it. The ball-shaped stands would still put strain on the liners by the very virtue of gravity pulling the helmets down.

I’d put them flat against the case, but a lot of them have free-hanging oxygen masks or collars which prevent them from staying flat. If I want them on display I need them to be on something head-ish. Plus these glass heads seem really cool!

Any advice on not destroying these (essentially irreplaceable) helmets for display?

How reasonable are these financial advisor fees?

Hello all,

My financial advisor is looking for an upfront fee of £8500 and then 1.3-odd yearly on a £500k investment. I can’t do the investment stuff myself as I have a pretty bad brain injury. This firm specialises in medical cases and personal injury trust stuff. In my position, is it worth it?

The yearly return would provide me with an extra source of income to compound over time which would be used to pay for occasional support (rehabilitation), but I can also claim benefits due to the nature of the trust the money is in and I intend to get back to work once I’m recovered. Unfortunately, the latter is a difficult thing to judge because I don’t know when that’ll be.

It breaks down to:

0.734% – Fund Manager Fee (SEI Investments)

0.20% – Platform Fee (Fusion Wealth)

0.15% – Discretionary Fund Manager (DFM) Fee

0.26% – Transaction Costs
