24V VR6 02M New flywheel + clutch help

2002 GTi VR6 24v/BDF 02M 6spd

car has 220k, clutch was replaced by prior owner between 20-30k miles ago. Clutch is already dying, and the car exists to get beat on. I think the pressure plate has been bad ever since i got it. Possibly the old owner replaced the clutch without the pressure plate.

Anyways i cant afford the time to figure out what flywheel is in it. I’m pretty sure it’s a single mass because it chatters like a bitch, But i don’t know which one, and i don’t know if it’s worn.

I was looking at clutches and really liked the SouthBendClutch “stage 1” organic heavy duty. But it’s only compatible with a DMF. SBC has a “stage 2” that is meant for SMF’s but it’s more expensive and their flywheel is super expensive. Is it compatible with other cheaper flywheels?

The Valeo kit is tempting and really cheap but i’m worried about how well it’ll hold up with how hard this car gets beat on. I also heard that the pressure plate is specific to the flywheel in this kit and they aren’t compatible with other aftermarket’s.

My problem really is i know nothing about what’s in this car right now, and it has way too many miles to assume any wear item is OEM.

Should i go with the SBC kit and get an aftermarket DMF with it? SBC’s Stage 2 with a diff flywheel? Has anyone here had the valeo kit and can vouch for it? Maybe something else all together?

Apologies for the big write up, i’m used to working on my toyota, it’s much less confusing to get parts…
