Is this oil consumption normal for a 7.5?

Hello, I have a 7.5 GTI 2018 with stage 1 with 52k km mileage.

I was wondering if this oil consumption is considered healthy? Adding photos right after oil change and then 1.7k km after.

Absolutely love that for me.

I was on designated driver duty last night, picked up my old lady and took her to Taco Bell and while sitting in the drive thru this dickhead plows into the back of me. Said he couldn’t see my car and this is the second time he’s done this 🤦‍♂️

What is the cause of this slight rotation in the shifter? Mk7.5 MT

Originally the shifter knob was coming loose but I fixed that with blue loctite, now the whole shaft seems to have some rotational play. Any ideas?

I’ve had my new GTI for a week and the windshield already needs replacing. :/

Just venting. Thank you for the outlet.

Blue smoke on startup - 2022 MK8 GTI DSG, 68k miles

Hi everyone,
I have a MK8 GTI DSG with about 68,000 miles, and I’ve recently noticed smoke from the exhaust on startup.
Three times I’ve seen a very noticeable indigo/blue cloud in my rearview mirror. I finally managed to record it, but in the video the smoke doesn’t look nearly as blue as it did on those previous occasions.
It seems to happen on startup only. I don’t notice any smoke while driving, accelerating, or idling once the engine is running.
The car is out of warranty, so I’m trying to figure out what the most likely cause could be before taking it to a shop.
Has anyone experienced this on a MK8 GTI? Could it be valve stem seals, turbo seals, the PCV system, or something else?
Thanks!

MK8.5 Front GTI Badge Replacement?

Has anybody found a replacement for this badge that’s just the black plastic without the GTI lettering? Looks like it just pops off and I’ve seen some options for replacing it but haven’t been able to find one without the lettering. Looking for more of a uniform look across the front of the car.
Any help is appreciated!

Steering wheel vibrations when braking lightly - do I need to replace my brake rotors?

I have a 24’ MK8 GTI with about 27k miles on it, and I’ve loved the car. Just came back from a 500 mile round trip with it though and I’ve been noticing some vibration in the steering wheel when braking lightly, specifically from 50-70 mph or so. Harder braking, or braking at lower speeds, don’t produce any vibrations.

After the trip, I checked out the rotors and noticed these perpendicular lines on the passenger side front rotor. All other brake rotors look about the same, I don’t think the pads are too worn either? Not sure if this is a result of some pad deposit but figured I’d ask.

I don’t usually drive hard either - most of my mileage was on the highway, and maybe one autocross event. 27k feels pretty early to be replacing pads/rotor.

[mk7] How do i get this downpipe nut out?

I am trying to get stock downpipe out but it has been a nightmare. I had to cut open the exhaust clamp on the bottom of the car because it was rusted out. Spent forever trying to find this bolt. I can reach it with a long extension from under the car but the nut is too tight with the ratchet and it just spins with an impact. I dont have any wrench even close to long enough to reach this from the top. I also have the performance pack lsd so everything is super tight.

Cherry on top is im on ramps and have very little room to slide myself around.

Mk6 GTI Turbo Upgrade Project Feedback

I’m planning a turbo build on my 2010 Volkswagen GTI Mk6 DSG with the EA888.1 2.0T and wanted to get your feedback on my plans.

Right now I am basic stage 2 with an ecu tune, cai, and exhaust. My hopes for the car over the course of the next year is to upgrade the turbo (skipping k04), keep engine internals stock, and push as much power as I can "safely" out of the stock internals while keeping it hopefully dailyable. I have been looking as much as I can for power limits of the stock tsi and what mods are required to push that level of power on gasoline.

Both me and my father are well into the car world and have been wanting to start a project for some time now and with the little time I have before I head off the school we had to put aside our project ideas and we figured it would be best to work on the car we already had. We have kept all the maintenance updated with no oil or coolant leaks, replaced rear main seal, timing chain, oil changes, etc.. We are both able to do all the labor luckily and are at the point in the project where we need to start making part lists and plans on what to buy and what we need. So far I have found as much as I could on the 2.0 tsi engine and other big turbo builds and seem to have a decent understanding of what it needs.

I will also point out that I don't plan on going past 400whp since that would require a built motor which I don't have money or time for but also I don't see the point of investing that much money into a fwd car and if I ever did plan on doing past that point then it would only make sense in a Golf R or other non-fwd car.

My Current mods:

* APR Stage 2 ECU tune on 93 octane

* Integrated Engineering cold air intake

* 3" Catless downpipe

* 3" Exhaust w/ Vibrant Performance Resonator + Magnaflow Straight Through Muffler

* Stock engine internals

* Stock Turbo

* Stock fueling currently

* Planning to switch to a COBB Accessport for custom tuning

Planned Parts so far:

* CTS BOSS500 turbo kit

* Cobb/ ECU + TCU Tune (Switching to Stratified?/Sneekytune?/Eurodyne?)

* ARM Competition FMIC

* LPFP upgrade

* Colder spark plugs

* R8 Coils

* 4 Bar MAP Sensor

*Dogbone insert

I understand that may be near the limit for pump gas and stock internals and from what I have seen is that the engine can handle just up to 400whp as long as the torque is limited at the low end by the tuner to prevent breaking any internals like the rods.

The CTS kit I am leaning towards because it seems to be the best bolt-on turbo kit that supports the power range and my budget in looking for and also I may be able to get a discount on it through an employee discount because I currently work in the automotive technician field.

I am currently tuned by APR and I am pretty sure my TCU doesn't have a tune but not completely sure as it was already tuned when I bought the car. I am debating switching to stratified and buying a Cobb as it seems to be the best route when upgrading a turbo and going up in power but also I hear some people go through other tuners like SneekyTune or Eurodyne and was curious if anyone else has had a similar experience as me and who they went with? I have a couple VW friends who recommend a custom tuner from BoostDynamicTuning up in SC who doesn't tune through Cobb and has a relatively fair price and says he should be able to tune it to my desired power.

I am pretty sure that I am gonna go with the ARM Comp FMIC since it seems to have a good reputation and comes as a kit so I don't have to fabricate anything like I would with the TR8C.

Fueling is one thing that I am a bit confused about because I keeping seeing things like the HPFP can withstand that level of power and then others are saying that I need and entire fueling system. Some guidance would be really helpful as I am a bit lost and I really don't want to go near methanol and I would love to just stay on 93 oct pump gas.

Other than those big things I can't really think of anything else I would need other that little things like r8 coils, pregapped colder sparkplugs, I saw the MAP sensor should be upgraded, the cts turbo mentions working with oem DV but I don't know if I should upgrade that too. Also heard the dogbone should be replaced and some recommendations on dogbone inserts would be great.

With all that said, the following questions are my biggest:

  1. Is 400whp a safe range for my engine on 93 if possible and at what point exactly does the stock internals start to give out?

  2. What supporting mods you consider required for this goal?, am I missing any?, and does my plan seem reasonable as I want to save as much money while still reaching a safe level of reliability?

  3. What fueling upgrades are required to hit 400whp on 93 oct?

  4. What tuner do you guys recommend as I am leaning torwards stratified but also maybe a local reputable custom tuner who can put it on a dyno and tune it in person.

  5. What do people regret doing on their big-turbo Mk6? Do you have an recommendations or tips from your experience?

Smoke on warm startup

I’ve noticed the occasional puff of smoke during warm startups on my mk8 GTI. I attached a video below, it looks a bit blue to me but I can’t tell with the lighting in my garage for sure. Anyone else had a similar issue? I only notice it when the engine is warm and has been sitting for an hour or so then is started up. Nothing noticeable on cold starts or when driving/wot. I’m going to have a vw shop I trust check it out a bit further this week. I’ve heard valve stem seals are a common cause, but also heard those should be causing smoke on cold starts as well. Will update the post once I get more info from the shop and potentially vw dealer. I’ve been tuned on stage 1 for over a year but I think I noticed this happening before hand also, and I’m not noticing any significant oil consumption.

034 rear spring, which side is the top

Do I have this the correct orientation or is it the other way around?

Time to restore my baby back to its former glory. Let's start with fresh wheels.

Purchased a new Golf R MK8.5 and let my MK7 GTI just sit. The carbon fiber got ruined. A friend was changing out his wheels from his Porsche and sold me the ones he removed for pennies. Bought new rubber, fitted them to my MK7, and I fell in love again. Time to restore her back to her former glory. I can finally see the red calipers. Next, redo the carbon fiber.

Does this sound like clutch chatter?

Looking at a gti and was wondering if this is to be expected from a stage 2 clutch?
