need some general pointers for hair coloring

hi y’all! i’m very new to the world of hair care and coloring so please bear with me.

i’ve been exploring coloring for the first time and when i went to my hair stylist, she colored my hair with a semi-permanent. for reference, my natural hair is a level 2 and i’ve never bleached or anything. she colored my hair with a burgundy (i think it was a 5rv) and i love how my hair still looks like my natural color but when it catches the light, it has that burgundy shimmer.

i do want my hair to be a bit more burgundy though, i won’t lie. so i humbly come here, seeking advice as a very naturally dark-haired person who wants to bring more color in! for reference, i have also started using the keracolor merlot clenditioner but im not sure what the best method of application is for dark hair (applying and combing through dry vs. damp vs. wet hair).

i suppose the few questions i have are:

  1. are there any ways to pre-condition my hair for my keracolor to make the color take more easily/for more burgundy to come through? i’m ideally looking for ways that don’t involve bleach and i really don’t want to permanently damage my hair, so if that’s not an option, that’s okay.

  2. what is the best way that you apply your color-depositing conditioner?

  3. my hair type is fine and curly (3a), does my hair type have any bearing on what coloring products best adhere to my hair?

thank you so much for your help! i really appreciate it :)
