I can’t believe I got Duelist!

I can’t believe I got Duelist!

I honestly can’t believe I hit 2100.

I’m a returning player and I’ve never been that amazing at PvP. Historically I’ve mostly played healers. I tried rolling a rogue and mage this expansion and got absolutely humbled.

Rogue was just too much for my brain. Constant target swapping, managing CC chains, melee positioning, knowing when to commit/go defensive… and it was my first melee class on top of that. Coming from healing where I’m used to caster positioning, pillaring, and watching the flow of the game from the backline, it felt overwhelming.

Then I tried mage and just got obliterated every lobby because I was always the target.

Eventually I rolled a BM hunter because everyone says it’s easy mode. Honestly? They’re probably right lol. But I still tried to play it as well as I could. I worked on trapping healers, stunning off DRs, peeling for teammates, using pillars correctly, rotating defensives, etc. I actually think all my experience healing helped me understand positioning and pressure way more than I realized.

I started this character in full blues without a single epic and grinded out all my conquest gear through Solo Shuffle and some Blitz.

What’s funny is I genuinely thought every rating milestone was going to be my peak. I took screenshots at 1800, 1900, 1950, and 2000 because I kept thinking “there’s no way I get higher than this.”

And then tonight I won a few more matches and got over 2100.

I know BM hunters get memed on and called faceroll, but man… this still feels awesome to me. Highest arena rating I’ve ever had.

I guess I just wanted to post this for anyone out there grinding and feeling like they’ll never get there. If my average self can do it, you probably can too. Just roll a BM hunter hahaha

New BM Hunter question about pets

Sorry, I did use search, but I’m still not really understanding how the two pets work for BM.

Do you only get the actual benefit from your main pet, and the Animal Companion pet doesn’t really do anything besides cosmetic / extra damage?

For example, I have a hippo and a whiptail because I want access to lust and mortal strike. Do I basically just need to decide which one I want as my main pet depending on what content I’m doing?

So in something like Solo Shuffle, I’m assuming I’d usually want the whiptail as my main for the mortal strike, and in Blitz I might want the hippo as my main for lust.

Does the companion pet matter at all for utility? I have a raptor set as my companion so it shows up with both the hippo and whiptail, but I’m wondering if I could do something like:

  • whiptail as main
  • hippo as companion

and get any benefit from that, or if it doesn’t matter because the companion is basically just cosmetic / extra flavor.

From what I’m reading, it sounds like the companion pet doesn’t really give you anything meaningful and only the main pet matters, but I just want to make sure I’m understanding that correctly.

I’m having a weirdly hard time finding a clear answer on this.

What’s the easiest DPS spec for someone coming from healing?

I normally play healers and I’d say I’m decent, but not amazing currently 1600-1700 in SS. I’m trying to branch out into DPS a bit more.

So far I’ve messed around with Sub Rogue and managed to break 1500 in Solo Shuffle, but now I’m kind of hard stuck bouncing between 1400–1500. I also tried Frost Mage in all honor blues and played terribly enough in Shuffle that I kind of gave up on it for now (might try again with full conquest gear to see how it goes).

The thing is I actually really enjoy the rogue and mage playstyle. They're fun, I like the utility, and I can see why they’re strong. But they also feel a lot more complicated. Coming from healing, I’m used to paying attention to teammates, positioning, and what’s going on in the arena overall. On rogue and mage, it felt like there were just too many utility buttons and too many things to manage well while also doing damage.

Right now I’m considering rolling something easier as a DPS alt and I’m mainly looking at:

  • BM Hunter
  • Ret Paladin
  • Warrior (not sure if fury or arms yet)

I’m mostly asking from the perspective of someone who is newer to DPS, not a total noob, and not someone looking for the absolute best meta spec.

I’ve heard melee is generally easier and I did feel that a little bit on rogue. My main concern with BM Hunter is that even though people say it’s easy, it’s still ranged, and I’m wondering if that adds a layer of difficulty. At the same time I do understand basic positioning/pillaring already from healing.

One thing I’ve noticed when I play DPS is that I tend to tunnel vision more than when I heal. As a healer, I naturally pay more attention to my teammates and have better overall situational awareness. On DPS I feel like I lock in too hard on damage and lose track of everything else.

So for someone like me, what would you recommend?

I’m not against challenge if I want that, I can always keep playing my rogue or give mage another shot. But I’d also like a DPS spec that’s a bit easier and less mentally taxing, so when I’m getting tilted healing Solo Shuffle, I can queue DPS and not have to sweat quite as hard.
