The Diving Board

For me this is a very ‘simple‘ album, and no offence or derogatory meaning to that either.

It is EJ doing what he does best: still delivering excellent, rich vocals and enjoyable piano, but there just much variety or excitement here.

However he deserves great credit for still putting music out there at 66 (in 2013)!

‘Oceans Away’ is a great opener and probably my favourite track; ‘Oscar Wilde Gets Out’ is a close second, I love the jaunty piano.

‘The Ballad of Blind Tom’, ‘Voyeur’ and ‘The New Fever Waltz’ are all solid tracks too

Barcelona DVD

Just watched this one and it is pretty damn good! Elton is in fine form and seems very happy, and the band are also very good and enjoying, esp Charlie Morgan on drums. The backing singers bring something different but do get a little repetitive/tiresome on some songs.

Favourite tracks from this one are:

Tiny Dancer (need I say anymore), Philly Freedom (always a fun one), ML&MH (even if it does go a bit long!), The Last Song (hauntingly beautiful vocal), Funeral/Love (awesome ‘jam’), Saturday Night (again needs no explanation), and Song For Guy into Your Song was also superb.

What‘s everyone’s thoughts/favourites from Live in Barcelona? 😁

What About Now

I’m by no means a die-hard Bon Jovi fan, but do enjoy the ‘classics‘, and certain songs on their early career albums

But I also love the late 00’s and 2010’s albums, especially What About Now!

What an album this is! JBJ‘s vocals are superb, Richey gives some quality guitar solos, in fact the whole band is firing on all cylinders.

The title track, That’s What The Water Made Me, Because We Can, Beautiful World, Room… and With These Two Hands are all excellent 👌🏻

Who else loves this album? 😁🌟

The Union (w/Leon Russell)

What do people make of this one?

I‘d never heard of Leon Russell but his voice is pretty good, in fact I enjoy more songs with him on lead vocals than EJ!

If It Wasn’t For Bad, Hearts Turned To Stone, Monkey Suit, When Love Is Dying and A Dream Come True are all solid tracks

The Captain and the Kid

Thoughts on this one?

It’s not my favourite by any means but some solid tracks on there!

‘Blues Never Fade Away‘, ‘The Bridge‘ and ‘I Must Have Lost It On The Wind’ are 3 strong ballad/slower songs and definite highlights of EJ’s later career

’Just Like Noah’s Ark‘ and the title track are more playful, fun songs, and also enjoyable 😁

Peachtree Road

Thoughts on Peachtree Road?

For me it is a rather uninteresting album, would be in the bottom half of a rankings list.

All That I’m Allowed (I’m Thankful), Weight of the World, Too Many Tears, and Answer in the Sky are all solid tracks, but they are the only 4 I like.

How would you rate this album?

Songs from the West Coast

Thoughts on SFTWC? In my opinion this is a very good later-career album, with some excellent tracks.

Of course I Want Love, and This Train… were the biggest hits from this album, but there are arguably even better songs hidden in the album tracks!

American Triangle is a haunting ballad type song, Dark Diamond a song of defiance in older age, Original Sin is a definite highlight, and Look Ma No Hands very good also.

The Big Picture

Thoughts on this one? I have seen mixed reviews but personally I rate it quite highly.

Something.., Long Way from Happiness, the title track, The End Will Come, and If The River Can Bend are all solid tracks with some big choruses.

What are your favourites, and not-so favourites?

Made In England

Thoughts on this one?

A mixed bag for me, with some strong tracks (Made in England, Latitude, Believe, Pain) and some rather average ones (Belfast, Cold)

The One

Thoughts on this album?

I think it’s a really solid record, with good variety but a strong rock core running through it.

‘The Last Song’ is haunting and powerful, ‘Emily’ a superb track, ‘The One’ a great ballad, and ‘Sweat It Out’ is full of attitude and a cutting beat.

A very good start to the 90’s for EJ!

Sleeping With The Past

Thoughts on this album?

For me, like a lot of his post-peak material, it is a mixed bag.

But ‘Sacrifice’ is one of my favourite EJ songs, and ‘Blue Avenue’, ‘Whispers’ and ‘Healing Hands’ are all solid tracks

Reg Strikes Back

Thoughts on this album? Favourites, not-so favourites?

I think it’s a solid album, quite varied and creative. I Don’t Wanna…, Japanese Hands, and ML&MH2 are probably the highlights, with Camera Never Lies, and Goodbye Marlon Brando also solid songs 😁👌🏻

EI8HT

What an outstanding album this is!

Impossible to pick a favourite song, easier to say the ones I don’t like as much (At The Bottom, Searchlight, Bear With Me, The Pilot)

A few songs i was hooked on instantly (Young Again, DKD, Imposter, Machine Gun, Dizzy) and some are ‘growers’ (So Glad…, Deep End, Outlaw)

As a casual fan who got into them around Amaryllis, and for me that is their best, this album strongly rivals that

Favourite lyrics on EI8HT?

EI8HT has some awesome lyrics, here are some of my favourites:

‘My education’s wearing off, my generation’s getting soft, brain sick and so bored, that’s what we’re built for‘ (Dance Kid Dance)

‘When I’m with you it’s like amazing grace, the way you move in mysterious ways’ (Dizzy)

‘If I could get my head fixed, fuck all of the bullshit, maybe I could learn how to function again’ (Imposter)

‘If I can reach tomorrow I won’t take my eyes off you’ & ‘I can’t stop this but I should, if I could miss you more I would‘ (both from Machine Gun)

‘Open the blinds, let me show you what you need to see; everything’s shocking but nothing is hard to believe’ (Outlaw)

‘I might be scared of what I’ll miss, but I’d rather take the risk’ (Wide Open)

Breaking Hearts

What do we think of the Breaking Hearts album?

It is not a particularly strong album for me, however ‘Sad Songs’ and ‘In Neon’ are two solid tracks, and ‘Burning Buildings‘ is decent too

Too Low For Zero

Thoughts on TLFZ?

My 2nd favourite album behind GYBR, I think it has some really strong songs: Kiss the Bride, One More Arrow, Saint, the title track, as well as …Blues and I’m Still Standing of course!

The Big Picture - WOW!

I’ve been listening through each of EJ’s albums for several weeks now - today’s was The Big Picture, and man what an album!

Elton’s voice sounds very assured and powerful, the melodies are fun and buoyant, and there are several great songs.

Of course, Something… is known as the big hit from this record, but If The River Can Bend, A Long Way From Happiness, and the title track are all very strong also. Even deep cuts like January and Wicked Dreams are entertaining and very listenable

What does everyone else think of TBP? 😁
