I am troubled by an accident I was in today
Today I was driving my 18 wheeler in a construction zone. Speed limit was 55 and I was driving 50 in the right most lane (3 lanes). A lady in a minivan was coming down the on ramp (there were construction concrete walls on the on ramp so no shoulder). There was traffic to my left and I watched as she was coming down the ramp, She was not slowing down and I tried to move as far left as I could and was saying "Back down!" That was when she hit the rear corner of my trailer and got the front of her van smashed into the wall. Now the part that makes me worry, I did not feel a thing in the cab of the truck, I watched as she pinched her van and all. I stopped the truck safely and put out triangles and did proper procedures. I was found not at fault and no ticket was issued. The impact tore off my solid steel tail light bracket and also broke a solid steel mud flap bracket. The front of her van was crushed and ripped off. All this detail to repeat, I did not FEEL a thing. If I had not been paying attention, I worry that I could have done this and not even known about it, going on to deliver my load and only then seeing the damage. Luckily I do pay attention and I saw it happen so I was able to stop and do the proper things. But I worry, This is my first accident in 29 years of driving. Please tell me if I am being paranoid of if my concerns are valid.
