She was missing a leg, so I made one

This little American Character doll that I got this past week needed some touch up work, and she was also missing her left leg. Fortunately, Molly (the flirty eye baby I recently got) had both of hers, and they just happened to be the same size. So I borrowed her leg, made molds from it, and cast a new leg out of fiberglass resin. I did it in two halves, it was easier that way. Then I touched up her face and painted her hair on. I'll probably repaint her arms also, but I'm done for the day.

E. Goldberger mama doll

I got this little girl today also. She's an E. Goldberger mama doll with a stuffed body, composition shoulder head and composition lower limbs. The company started in 1917, but in 1923 began marking their dolls "Eegee". Since this girl is actually marked "E. Goldberger", I'm guessing that puts her in the 1917-23 range. Her hair was atrocious, as you can see from the first three pictures. It was also synthetic and didn't appear to be her original wig, as the liner was ripped up and the hair in back was glued straight to her head. She does have molded hair underneath, but her entire head was painted flesh color with no sign of hair color, so I believe she had a wig when new. I had the wig in the last photo left over, so I put it on her. I washed her clothes and touched up her paint, especially on her legs. The paint and glaze over the composition on her legs was badly flaked off, so I had to fill a bit before painting.

Ideal stuffed body doll

This little one here that I just got has me a bit puzzled. I was in the process of sanding and filling where the paint flaked off of the head, and I found the marking on the back of the flange head with "IDEAL" in the diamond and "US OF A" around it. So that was one mystery solved. Then I looked in my books to try to find this particular doll, and that's where it got confusing. The closest face that I could find was Flossie Flirt. But this one doesn't have the flirty eyes, the whole body is stuffed except for the composition lower arms (not the legs), and I'm not even sure if this is a girl doll or a boy. The molded hair lines kinda look like a boy's short hair, but I'm not sure. Has anyone seen one like this? Does anyone know if this is a boy or girl?

Molly had a little work done

I got around to working on little Molly yesterday after work. You can still kind of see where the huge crack in her face was, but it's all filled and painted now, and I airbrushed some color on her hair also. I still need to repaint her hands, but that isn't a big deal to do. She looks more like she's smiling now that the big scar is gone.

Sleep/Flirty eyes mama doll

I just got this little unmarked girl in the mail today. I thought she looked a little sad with the huge crack across her face, and she was only $15, so I ordered her. I looked through my books but I can't find her maker or model. I concentrated on the curls of her hair, and she looks a lot like an Arranbee Dream Baby. She also looks like a Princess Beatrix. But being unmarked, she likely isn't either. I also don't know if either of those had flirty eyes. My book did mention that other companies like Sayco used the same head, and I did find an identical doll in one book, but it was also unmarked and unknown. I guess I'll never know who made her, but that's okay. The last picture shows her after I filled the crack on her face and the area on top of her head where there was some flaking. I still have to paint the repairs, but she looks happier already!

Papier mache body AM Doll

So I found another AM Doll almost like the one I found a few weeks ago at the fleatique, this one was on eBay. My first one has a stuffed body. This one has a papier mache body and legs with molded/painted shoes and socks. Her head and arms are composition. She was in pretty bad shape, both shoulders were blown out. Someone had tried to patch her by putting a piece of cardboard on one shoulder and stuffing some old paper inside. I fixed her up with some cardboard and hot glue, then decided to get creative and use the old paper that was inside to cover the patches. I'm not sure how old the paper is, does anyone know how long ago a 5lb sack of flour cost 21¢??

I put a dress that I had left over on her for now, but I may buy a new one. I'll try to clean up her head and arms, but I'm not sure if I want to repaint her at all. When I looked her up in my book, it said that the papier mache bodies were unusual for these dolls.

Beatrice got a new outfit!

Beatrice here is my 23" Armand Marseille Floradora. She just got lucky today and scored a new outfit because it was too big for the doll I had bought it for. It's from Florence and George, and is just too nice to not use it.

My four newest dolls are coming along

I got some packages in the mail today. One had the new outfits from Florence and George, and the other was from eBay with the heads and arms for the two headless dolls. Photo #1 is Thomas and Theresa. They still need a little work, but I'm not sure how far I want to take them. I kind of like the way they look now. Photo #2 is William and Wendy, the two formerly headless dolls. Wendy had a tattered old wig when I got her head, but she had molded hair underneath so I decided to try painting it instead. William also got a repaint on his hair, for some reason his turned out better. If I decide later, I can always just order a wig for Wendy. I need to order a bunch of pairs of shoes and socks anyway for these four and a few more. Photo #3 is Thomas again, I had forgotten his hat in the first one.

Newest additions to the collection

These four just came today, all in need of repair. The girl needed her shoulders glued back to her body and one side of her hair was down. Those were quick fixes so I got them done before I thought to take a before photo. The boy looked like someone hit his head with a hatchet! I patched the hole up, now I have to skim coat the patch and fill in the molded hair design there. Neither of them are marked, and I was able to see the entire shoulder plate on both. If anyone has any idea of their brand, let me know. The two headless bodies seem to be in pretty good shape, and the one with the composition legs has "1912" written on it where the head goes. Neither of those are marked otherwise. I already ordered heads for them.

Fleatique find today

I had to go on a long drive today and saw a fleatique store on my way, so I stopped on the way home. They had lots of interesting things at some really good prices (I also scored two vintage GI Joes for $80, one is even a talker!). Way in the back of the store, in a case against the wall, was this little one. She's an AM Doll, I'm guessing 1920's or 30's. We couldn't read her markings at the store no matter how hard we tried but when I got her home, with the lighting in my dining room, I could read it plain as day. I haven't measured her, and I had to run out again, but she's pretty tall, about 24". I'm going to look up AM Doll in my books when I get home, but if anyone has any information, let me know.

This little girl is Marigold. She's an 18" Arranbee Nancy Lee composition doll that I got a while ago. When I bought her, like many others, she didn't have clothes. I've had her in a dress for a modern doll since then, and it just never was right. It was too short, and it was pretty cheap. So I bought her this dress, hat, and bag set that's made for a 1/3 BJD doll. I think it fits her quite well and looks nice on her. The 1/3 BJD dolls are taller than her, but they're tall and thin. So it works out that they fit this size doll. The shoes that came with the outfit would be too big, but I do have a few 1/3 BJDs so I can use them for someone else.
