Which outfit looks better?

Here's a doll I got recently. I thought I liked her pink and black dress but when I got her I thought she looked too stuffy, and it reminded me of the pink and blue 80s obsession. I replaced it with the cotton gingham dress, which is a little on the short side. I put a slip under the dress but I have to make some adjustments. Which one do y'all prefer?

Antique Store Regret

I saw this beautiful girl at the antique store and I am regretting not buying her. She’s absolutely stunning and I think she was a reasonable price as well. Does anyone know anything about her?

Antique doll with a backstory

So I was scrolling through listings for antique dolls yesterday and came across a listing for a 1914 SFBJ jumeau doll, she's a little worse for wear (missing 1 finger and the paint on her hands is pretty chipped, a small crack on the upper back, doesn't have her original clothes and her hair looks like a birds nest 😂) but what caught my attention is that among the photos of her little scraggly self is a photo of a letter written by her original owner who was 79 at the time of writing it. The letter states that "Sally" was bought by her father for her second birthday in 1914 during WW1 and was posted over from France where her father was located at the time (I assume he was away at war) and when she arrived her finger had broken during the trip and she didn't have clothes so her mother adjusted some of her baby clothes to fit her (petticoat and bloomers) and she believes her aunt's handmade a dress for her (the dress itself is unfortunately damaged beyond repair so will need to be replaced 🥺) and the letter ends with "that is all I can tell you about Sally, please take good care of her for me" and when I tell you I almost cried reading it... 😭😭 To think she kept Sally all those years and cared so much about her she wrote a letter to whoever ends up with her, explaining her life story 🥺 naturally Sally has now been reserved by me and I'm awaiting to arrange postage and she will live the rest of her life with me. ❤️

I'd like to fix up her hair as much as possible but I don't intend on repairing the missing finger as I think it's part of her story and should remain that way but I would like to get a new dress for her if possible (I'm sad that her current dress is too damaged to keep) but does anyone know where I could get an appropriate dress for that time period to fit her? The listing states she's 55cm tall. Anyways I just wanted to share her story because I think it's so lovely 🥰

Large collection of dolls

Hi. I am new to this forum, but I'm hoping someone here can help. I am the director of my local, very small town thrift store and we just received a large, what I believe to be a museum collection, of vintage dolls. There are approximately 300 dolls that appear to come from every part of the world. Many look to be handmade and many are porcelain, wood, ceramic...all kinds of materials are represented. They were stored and wrapped away in 1930's newspaper and some appear to be very, very old. Many of them also are tagged with a number, leading me to think they may have come from a museum. I reached out to Theriaults and they were not interested them. I would like to sell the whole entire lot, but am not sure if this is do-able. Any ideas? These pictures are only a fraction of what came in...along with some doll furniture.

Ideal Composition Shirley Temple 1930s today's purchase 😀

Just bought this doll. This is sellers photo from Facebook marketplace. $50 which is actually more than I usually spend on a Shirley that needs some tlc but the seller had videos of her being pulled out of an old trunk and I couldn't resist her!

I'll follow up after she's restrung and cleaned up.

Does anyone make their own wigs?

If you've seen my previous post about little Sally who will be arriving this week and you've seen the photo of the birds nest that is currently on her head, you'll know why I'm asking this 😂 how hard is it to make your own dolls wigs? I'm fully prepared to go all in on this little glow up project on her. I have some clip in human hair extensions that I no longer use and I'm wondering if they could be used to make a wig? How would I go about that?

I wasn’t looking for a Bye-Lo, but a Bye-Lo found me!

I always check the doll section at the thrift stores, and usually it’s full of modern stuff and hobbyist repros. I guess I can understand why the store didn’t recognize this guy as the real deal, because there are *so* many bad hobbyist ones that get donated. He was there for over a week, and was 50% off, so I got him for $10. I guess he was overlooked by everyone else, too.

I always thought Bye-Los look like Bobby Hill on King of the Hill, so I’ll name him Bobby. My son said I should send him to the voice actress who does Bobby, but I think he’ll stay with me 😂

I’ll clean him up a bit, and I think I have a more period-appropriate outfit for him. I’d really like to give credit to this subreddit for teaching me how to recognize antique dolls—a couple of years ago, this guy wouldn’t have stuck out to me immediately in a pile of modern dolls.

can anyone help me ID this doll?

i’ve had her for a while and for some reason never thought to look into what she is until now. i have an armand marseille and a seto fukaya which were both obviously easy to ID but she’s stumping me. i cant tell if her face is marked up or supposed to look like this lol, she has stationary eyes but the way they’re made reminds me of german bisques / repros. if anyone knows anything about this mark on her please let me know!

Restringing help???

I got halfway through restringing my dolls body when I realized her legs don’t have hooks, just hoops? How am I supposed to put the elastic through if it’s a hoop not a hook?

Help identifying this doll?

Went to my local "junk" shop that's basically a huge warehouse full of house clearance stuff that's mostly antique & vintage furniture / glassware / toys etc, spent over an hour just rummaging around but I almost missed this little doll on the first lap because she was on a lower shelf tucked at the back of a glassware shelf. I had a quick Google but only found one photo to match and it was an old vinted listing that's no longer available so I couldn't see any info on it. Any ideas on make / age? She has a soft body. I doubt she's very old but I couldn't leave her there so she's currently hitching a ride home in my bag 😂 thanks in advance 🫶🏻

Please help me find this doll..I had a very hard childhood . I didn’t have anyone except this doll. My heart just needs her still at 56.

Just before my life changed dramatically l got a doll for Christmas. Her name was Kizzy. She was a companion doll. She originally wore a red and white checkered dress with petticoat underneath. which had a white top part and a narrow piece of the red and white material the sewn from top to bottom on the white top. She originally had a red bandanna. She had black shoes with white socks. Her eyes open and close.
I still see her vividly in my head and her clothes but only found this picture of her. She was quite a tall doll. About 30” tall. She came out in the 1970’s maybe earlier.
I’m desperate to find her. I’m happy to pay. My heart just needs her back.
Please any help would be appreciated. I know it’s a long shot but l have to believe l will find her one day.

Can we ID this doll?

She’s a good size, maybe 24 inches? Head feels like bisque. Body feels like plastic? Can’t find any marks on the body. The back of the head is marked only 1907 15 GAL. I have scoured the Internet and can’t find a match to this maker. Any help is appreciated!

New to doll collecting

Hi! I'm completely new to doll collecting but my interest started a few years ago when I began mudlarking and would regularly find bits and pieces of old bisque dolls and researching everything about them, which then led to me admiring other peoples collections of antique dolls and all the different kinds. I always wonder about the back story of each doll and who owned them and I find it really fascinating. I've just bought my first doll, she's a little damaged but I don't mind, I'm so excited for her to arrive 🥰

I found this doll in the trash and picked it up. She’s so beautiful, I wonder why somebody threw her away.

My family says it’s probably cursed and I should get rid of it lol but I can’t, she’s so pretty, also in perfect condition. Does any of you know something about where she might come from ?

At risk of becoming known for always messing with doll arms, here's "repair" #3

So, I posted this flirty eyed AM 370 about a month ago when I first got her. Since the handwritten note on her stand said she had "composition lower arms" I took it at face value and thought her arms were just kind of ugly. I looked closer last night and realized someone painted over them. I removed all the paint with isopropyl alcohol, q tips and a few toothpicks. Turns out one lower arm was replaced and whoever did the repair wanted to conceal the minor difference in color. I much prefer them non painted, they match enough that I think someone who didn't know to look for it wouldn't notice 😅

She was missing a leg, so I made one

This little American Character doll that I got this past week needed some touch up work, and she was also missing her left leg. Fortunately, Molly (the flirty eye baby I recently got) had both of hers, and they just happened to be the same size. So I borrowed her leg, made molds from it, and cast a new leg out of fiberglass resin. I did it in two halves, it was easier that way. Then I touched up her face and painted her hair on. I'll probably repaint her arms also, but I'm done for the day.
