confused about ttc fare inspection and delayed presto credit card charge
on may 13, 2026, i took the streetcar to union and tapped my tangerine credit card through apple pay when boarding at queens quay ferry docks. the machine made the sound and turned green, so i believed the payment went through successfully.
later around 5:15 pm at union station, during a fare inspection, i was informed that there was no tap showing on the system. i explained that i used a credit card and that sometimes transactions take time to appear or process. at the time, the only visible charge was the usual $1 temporary authorization.
after getting home, i contacted tangerine bank and they advised me that presto transactions can take a couple of days to fully post to the account.
two days later, the transaction appeared on my account for may 13, 2026, showing a total charge of $6.60 — $3.30 from my morning trip from finch station and another $3.30 for my trip home. this confirmed that the fare payment for the trip had processed successfully after all.
just sharing in case anyone else experiences delays with presto credit card payments not appearing right away during fare inspections.
