The inequality I suffered, and it ruins my future
I am a male student equivalent to a senior high school student in the US. At 18 years old, I'm already an adult, and so are all of the people mentioned in this post.
My school, one of the highest ranking male-only secondary schools in the whole country, participates in something called an "academic olympiad". Astronomy, Biology, Chemistry, Geography, Mathematics and Physics. However, the main organization for this competition also has other subjects such as Earth Science and Linguistics. The students who manage to pass all 3 levels of examination (provincial, regional and national) would participate in the international competition of that academic year.
I know several people who have been in this "olympiad" thing, including myself. But here's where the problem starts.
My school only supports students who applied for the 6 subjects mentioned above. Despite the fact that I applied for a different subject, the school initially promised me that I would be included in the honorable students board. This is an important matter here, because these few students would receive "exclusive sponsorships" such as a $50,000 prize from the school, a chance to be on TV as a contestant for an academic game show, the title of "outstanding youth" from the government, being guaranteed admission by the best universities both in the country and abroad, and so much more.
I got to the third level, the national level, a few years back. When I sent a letter to the director's office, I got zero response. I went to check with the teacher who is responsible for the program inside the school, and that's when I learned that the school completely dismissed my request. Meanwhile, a few students that I know have already been awarded the benefits and sponsorships mentioned above. They went to the actual international olympiad and won silver/bronze, went to Europe for "academic visit", met the prime minister at the time, went on that TV show, became famous and went home with taxpayers' money. But I didn't. The school broke the promise and left me back to the same place where I started, as a nobody.
Now, I've been speculating for many years that the reason behind this was very simple.
One of those "geniuses" came from a wealthy background, his parents are both doctors. Another one is also a rich kid, his dad is a dean of a prestigious university and has connections with many important figures in the educational system. I'm from a middle-income family and without any ties to anyone, and so I was ignored. So while some affluent upper classes enjoy their fame and better future, the poorer people who play fair has to keep struggling just to get by.
I don't want anyone to compensate me, nor do I want to go back and get the things I should have gotten in the first place. I just want to see the whole corrupted system change for the better. I don't want to see future generations being pushed out of the opportunities they deserve by some greedy, selfish, spoiled tiny fraction of the population who keep wanting more despite already having so much.
