India is slowly shifting from “buying gold” to investing in long-term savings through clean energy.

Building Surya Sangam has made me realize how rapidly interest in rooftop solar is growing among homes and MSMEs in India.

Do you think rooftop solar will become common in Indian homes in the next 5 years?

After speaking with multiple MSMEs in India, here’s what surprised me

When I initially started exploring renewable energy adoption among MSMEs, I assumed the biggest barrier would be technology or awareness.

Interestingly, that hasn’t been the case.

Most business owners already know solar works.
The actual blockers are much more operational:
Uncertainty around ROI
Fear of poor maintenance/service
Financing constraints
Concerns around production disruption during installation
Lack of trusted implementation partners

Another surprising thing:
Many factories are losing significant energy efficiency even before considering solar optimization.

Simple load planning and operational monitoring itself can create meaningful savings.

India’s MSME sector has massive potential in clean energy transition, but the approach needs to be practical and business-first rather than just sustainability-first.

Curious to hear:
What do you think is slowing industrial renewable adoption globally?
