What would you do ?
Hi everyone, I am a 64 year old disabled widow and currently receive $47 in SSI and 967 in disabled widow benefits for a total of $1014 a month. I am struggling so bad with this horrible economy and I need some extra income somehow ( who doesn't). Anyway, I called social security and asked them if I could get a job like gig work or even McDonald's for like 15 to 20 hrs a week. They said , sure but we would cut off your SSI ( big woppie for only $47 ) but then, they said and we would take your Medicaid too. And that is a major problem as because of having Medicaid, I have my Medicare premiums paid by it or at least my state ( Texas ).
I always thought there were certain circumstances where even if you lose your SSI ( remember it's only $47 ) , that they would still allow you to keep the Medicaid at least for a while. But the SS agent I talked to told me nope , that's not the case . I do have a car ( even if it's 20 years old ) I have a older brother who helps me with car repairs when needed to keep it running good, thankfully. I just thought maybe I could do like door dash a few hours a week to help make ends meet. It's my understanding that's 1099 so I'm just wondering what you would do if in my shoes ? Thanks in advance for any advice, ideas or thoughts.
Sincerely, Sherry
