Proof of accommodation

Are hostels an eligible proof of accommodation for the chancenkarte visa? How long should my stay be?

I booked a hotel room using booking.com for 2 weeks but the price surpasses the monthly blocked amount which is 1091€ and i'm afraid I'll face issues bc of this. Which is why I'm considering cancelling and booking a hostel instead.

Hi everyone,

I’m moving to Berlin in about 2 weeks and I’m trying to get a realistic sense of the job market right now.

I’m a junior software engineer (recent grad, 1 year experience), but I’ve been hearing that the tech job market is pretty tough at the moment even in Germany. My German is still very basic, so I’m not sure how much that will limit me early on.

I’m of course applying to tech roles, but I’m also open to working something more casual at first (cafés, bars, retail, etc.) just to get settled.

A few questions:

  • How hard is it right now to land a junior dev job in Berlin?
  • Do companies hire English-speaking juniors, or is German usually required?
  • Is it relatively easy to find part-time/non-tech work (like cafés, bars, retail) with basic German?
  • Any tips on where to look or how to approach the search when you’ve just arrived?

Would really appreciate any honest insight or advice especially from people who’ve gone through this recently.

Thanks so much!
