The BBC need to stop calling Doctor Who a family show
Look I like Doctor Who I've liked it for years but we can all agree that Doctor Who is gone under the bus there are a number of reasons why and no it has nothing to do with the fact that it's gone well you know it's more or less the fact that it's like the BBC have stopped making 12 rated episodes and just decided to make it branded for a PG audience
Let's see every time a dark episode is produced of Doctor Who like heaven sent or blink those episodes get the most views ever and become successes is it the BBC have just decided yeah blink is too dark heaven sentenced too dark let's do something like space babies it just it makes no sense if you look at the statistics in the 70s when Philip pinch Cliff took over a script editor of Doctor Who the views were massive season 12 and 13 and 14 had one of the biggest fanbases and the biggest views ever seen in Doctor Who but now the BBC a more focused on trying to make it family friendly so what happens when a child discovers an episode like heavens and then they get a bunch of complaints and then guess what happens the episode then become censored.
I know it sounds like I'm just ranting but look at your dividigism Blu-rays they all say 12 the BBC should just stop with the pg mandate and watch as the views come back then they don't have to rely on cash grabs.
like bringing back David tenant or making the doctor Billy Piper if they have a conclusive storyline with dark and gritty episodes the ratings would be through the records and yes they could probably balance it with a couple PG episodes but I'm talking pure hinchcliffe body horror in the 70s they didn't have a 12 rating so PG rating was all they have so show having body horror is was creep .
but now there's a 12 rating you would think the BBC would decide let's bring back a Philip hinchcliff 2.0 like the potential is endless and my last point the BBC have a lot of licensing problems with the original 70s and 80s Doctor Who episodes I think it's about time the BBC start giving memorials to dead writers not only do the estate of that Pacific writer get to see the loved one memorialized in their favorite show but the BBC also can maintain the rights for at least a couple more years because they have the memorial episode showing that they share respect.
