The old 'Should I move up?' question...!

I’d be interested to hear what others would do in my situation.

I’m 49 and in perimenopause (not taking anything for that). I’ve been on Mounjaro 2.5mg for about 11 weeks and have stayed on that dose because it has continued to control my appetite pretty well.

I started at 147kg and I’m 139.4kg today, so I’ve lost 7.6kg (just over 5% of my starting weight).

My loss has slowed down quite a lot though:

  • June: 4.5kg lost
  • July: 1.9kg lost
  • August so far: 0.5kg lost

For roughly the last three weeks I’ve mostly been bouncing around 139–140kg, despite eating considerably less than I did before Mounjaro (daily calories are at ~1500 if not less on the days I don't feel like eating much). I'm prioritising protein and low carb.

The confusing part is that my waist and hip measurements have gone down and my face is noticeably slimmer, so I can see that my body is changing a bit even though the scale is barely moving.

Until now the appetite suppression on 2.5mg has been really good. This week I’ve noticed a bit more hunger, including in the first couple of days after my injection. It’s still completely manageable, just a little different from previous weeks.

Side effects on 2.5mg have been mild and manageable. I’m also taking 500mg modified-release metformin.

I’m not particularly interested in losing weight as fast as possible. I’d happily stay on 2.5mg if my weight continues trending down, even slowly. My concern is that the scale seems to have more or less stopped doing that recently. Not completely, but it's obviously very slow. 0.5kg or so in the last three weeks.

Moving to 5mg will also cost me about $100 AUD more per month, so I don’t want to increase just because that’s the standard schedule if 2.5mg is still (mostly?) doing the job.

For people who stayed on 2.5mg longer than four weeks, did you eventually start losing again after a few weeks at the same weight? Did you notice your measurements/body changing even while the scale was stuck? Or did a plateau/slight increase in hunger turn out to be the point where moving to 5mg made a noticeable difference?

What would you do: give 2.5mg a bit longer or discuss moving to 5mg?

Secondary EAL teachers...

My secondary school has dedicated EAL classes, with one class in each year group from Years 7–10. We’re currently looking to update our programs so that they are genuinely EAL-focused, rather than being loosely based on the mainstream English programs. The current approach isn’t ideal, particularly because it doesn’t adequately cater for the wide range of English language abilities within each class.

I’m wondering whether anyone working in a similar context would be willing to share how they’ve structured their EAL programs. We’re particularly struggling with how best to lay them out so that they’re clear, practical and user-friendly for teachers.

If anyone is happy to share an example of their programming, or can point me towards some useful examples or resources, I’d really appreciate it!

Thanks :-)

Much higher starting weight anyone?

Many people appear to be on Mounjaro and beginning at lower starting weight than I am. Anyone here at the higher end? Would love to connect.

I'm 175cm tall and starting weight was 147kg. Now 143 after a few weeks on 2.5mg. Female and in perimenopause so got a long road ahead, but I'm feeling good about it so far.

😄
