Ads destroying the site.

The absolute greed of goodwill is insane. It's been difficult to bid on anything lately since the introduction of ads. The site takes forever to load a bid, and if you get outbid at the final countdown, there's no way to put in a bid within 1 min, bc the site takes so long to load. Now they've introduced yet another type of ad!? So I expect even slower load times and more freezes.

They get everything for free as donations, people bid it up anyways, so what's the point of ads destroying the experience. Is the ad revenue really so good that they have to destroy the user experience for it!? I'm seriously considering dropping the site for good. I can find things elsewhere where I'm not enraged by the poor site build. Terrible.

Question for you: What Century Home project should have been easy, but turned out to be insanely difficult/a major challenge?

Century homes are packed with surprises! These can be delightful... and sometimes test your sanity, your budget, and your creativity.

And I've learned: projects that should have been hard weren't the real tests. It's what should be the easy projects. They can spiral, unlocking a million side quests before you finish.

Our current test: painting the living room. 🫠 Please don't ask how it's going.

So I wanted to ask you: what should have been an easy project but was difficult?

How did you solve those problems?

What tips/warnings do you have before someone takes on a similar project in their old home?

Request: show me your picture rail molding! 🤩

We've decided to install picture rail molding!
I get so inspired by the pictures shared in this sub reddit.

So, I was wondering: can I see pictures of your's if it's in your home?

Please drop them in the chat!

More context:
Our house was built in 1900.

I'm mainly curious about:
- the common height of placement on the wall.
- how does your's align with window trim? Or tall doors with transom windows.
- is it above the window? or does it align with the crosshead strip of door frames and windows?

This sub has helped me make decisions that feel right for our renovation project. ❤️ So before I install this, I wanted to turn to you all. Please share your knowledge 🙏

I painted my ceiling last night. Previously I'd painted the walls. but when I took the painters tape off the walls, the wall paint peeled off in huge patches. Not just the layer I'd just painted, but the underlayer that was the previous color, too.

Now there's a plaster texture, gaps between the paint layers, ridges - it's tragically uneven! I'm afraid if I paint over it, you'll be able to see all these ridges, it won't be a smooth paint coat. Sanding it just peels more paint off, and roughs up the plaster underneath.

I have no idea how to smooth this all out, or how to prevent the paint from coming off even more.

Why did this happen? or better yet, how can I fix this?
