I feel really hurt after my audition. I’m 19F. Have been in a few professional projects. Obviously been rejected to a lot to but that’s a part of the job. I’ve been disappointed sure but never this personally hurt.
I turned up at the audition. They said they want to ask some questions first before the audition. Like an interview style to I guess get to know me better. Which I’d never had happen before but I answered them well I think. Standard job interview type questions.
One of them said thank you and I can go now. I was confused about the fact I hadn’t done my actual audition. I said “would you like me to wait in the waiting room?” He said “no you can go now that’s all we need from you today.”
It was so weird but I said “ok thank you”. Today I got a rejection email. Any other rejection email I’ve gotten seemed like copy and paste like ”thank you for the energy you bring into your audition unfortunately you were not chosen at this time.” But this one was actually specific to me.
I’ll copy and paste it here: “Dear [My name], Thank you for taking the time to come in for the role of ___ in ___. Unfortunately we have given the role to someone else. This was due to two things we think will help you in your future endeavours.
We loved your headshot which is why we called you in for this opportunity as you looked great for the role. When you came in though you opened your mouth and we noticed you have quite a gummy smile. Which isn’t the look we were going for, if you plan on auditioning for more roles of the traditional love interest type we suggest looking into gum contouring, which is quite reasonably priced as cosmetic work goes.
The second issue we had during the interview section was your voice. We thought we’d make you aware if you don’t know already you have a lisp. This will make it difficult for you to get jobs in the acting industry. Especially ones of this type cast rather than maybe a more comedic character. We suggest looking into speech therapy or if a physical issue is causing this before continuing your audition journey.
Best wishes - [Company] Team”
I’m so hurt by this. Surely this isn’t normal? I know I’m young so maybe I don’t know enough about the industry but this hurt me a lot and I don’t think this is acceptable. I’m honestly so self conscious. I already was but now I’m scared of auditioning again. I don’t have enough money for gum contouring. And I’ve been working on my speech it’s actually not even that bad of a lisp most people don’t notice. Especially the past few years it’s gotten really better with work.
I feel awful now.
I’m a 21 year old girl and I have an audition tomorrow I’ve never had such little preparation for an audition lol. And the fact I know barely anything about it is making me panic slightly. Someone I know is on the audition panel and told me not many people are auditioning for the leads (the ensemble have been cast) so asked today if I want to audition.
I agreed. All I know is it’s about cheerleaders. And on their advertisement they say it’s preferred if you have cheerleading or gymnastic experience for the characters it would make sense for. I don’t have gymnastics or cheer experience. I’m also more of a mover than a dancer. I mean I can learn a dance like but more normal choreography rather than tricks or really intense stuff.
I really don’t know if there’s any roles that would fit me. Here’s the notable roles I’ve played in the past so you can get a picture of the kind of roles I’ve played in different theatre groups I’ve been involved in:
Angie - Our House
Velma Von Tussle - Hairspray
The White Rabbit - Alice In Wonderland
Kashoggi - We Will Rock You
Alana - Dear Evan Hansen
Gaston - Beauty And The Beast
Martha - Heathers
Bakers Wife - Into The Woods Jr
The Genie - Aladdin Jr
Olaf - Frozen Jr
Paulette - Legally Blonde Jr
Donkey - Shrek Jr
Miss Hannigan - Annie Jr
Miss Darbus - High School Musical Jr
I’m supposed to pick a character but I have no idea what the characters are like at all and if there’s characters similar to the type of roles I’ve played that won’t need to do crazy dancing and cheer moves.
I need to pick 2 contrasting audition songs mood wise that fit the vibe of the character.
