Is a second opinion worth it?

I have a 2018 Hyundai Elantra with ~120k miles, pretty good shape and decently-maintained. Last week, after accelerating to pass another car, my car completely lost acceleration, and when I pushed the gas pedal, it made a horrible rotating metal sound. I pulled over and it stalled out, and would not start, though it made the metal sound again as it tried to turn over.

After a $110 tow, and a $110 diagnostic, the mechanic said my car had ‘jumped time’, the engine would need to be replaced, and that there was really no other option. He said ‘it just happens sometimes.” My question is, is it worth it to get a second opinion, or would it just be a waste of money I could potentially put into a new vehicle. It would be another ~$200 to tow and diagnose at another location and I just don’t know what to do. I just can’t believe my car isn’t even 10 years old with just over 100k miles, and if the mechanic is right (I think he is), not worth much more than what I’ve already spent to hear ‘it just happens sometimes’.
