Never-Ending Summer

Where do children go when the summer doesn't end,

Under the gaze of a sun that refuses to set?

Time dissolves,

the harrowing whispers from the past drift among twilight.

I had seen dragonflies stitch the air as the currents claimed their skulls.

A silent afterthought of indifferent waters.

She asks me now if the world had always been this quiet..

Her ferocity dressed as innocence, a reflection of something permanent,

She braids the heat into her hair and names it—

"Ensnared by the sun."

Ridiculed, 'twas I.

She who nailed a scorching lust upon my heart.

I see her count the days by the length of shadows she refuses to let fall.
