Pep is NOT the answer. As much as I like Pep, the Italian NT need less of a spotlight on them, as they mentally cannot handle it. We saw players who flourish in the Serie A completely disappear and mentally collapse when they put on the Azzurri jersey.
We're (probably) all in agreeance that players like Bastoni, Frattesi, Cristante, etc all need to go, with the inclusion of the developing talent like Kayode, Koleosho, Pisili, etc. need to be elevated.
Silvio Baldini is deploying them beautifully at the U21 level.
He excels in handling the mentality of the game, plays a 4-3-3, and is known for developing young talent. He's not the star studded name like Pep is, but his track record is proven with the upcoming generation that will turn Italy around.
Whether we like it or not, Italy is in the midst of a rebuild. If the young talent know they will have a chance at the NT, this may be enough to sway the players who are considering choosing other NT's based on citizenship, ethnicity, etc.
