Playing Nintendo Switch 2 with Attached Controllers (using Viture Beast / Luma Ultra)
The Nintendo Switch 2 normally doesn't let you play with the original Joy-Cons attached while running through Viture Beast or Viture Luma Ultra glasses. I built a setup that gets around this, sharing it here in case anyone is dealing with the same problem.
1. Magnetic mount instead of the official holder:
This is not mandatory, but a nice improvement: Instead of using the official Viture Pro Mobile Dock Holder, I went with a MagSafe case for the Nintendo Switch 2 (the COOWPS P2 in my case) and glued a MagSafe ring onto the Viture Pro Mobile Dock. Upside: It attaches safely and I can keep using my own case and attach or detach the Mobile Dock whenever I want.
2. MobaPad M12 HD instead of the original Joy-Cons:
This is the actual gamechanger. The MobaPad M12 HD click into the Nintendo Switch 2 like regular Joy-Cons, but depending on the switch on the back they get treated in two different ways:
- Wired Mode: Connects through the magnetic contact points on the side of the Nintendo Switch 2, basically like a wired Pro Controller. You can still detach them and they keep working.
- Bluetooth Mode: Attached to the system, but recognized as a Bluetooth controller. Bonus: they run on their own batteries, which takes a real load off the Switch 2's battery life.
The result
In both modes I don't have to detach the Joy-Cons and can play the Nintendo Switch 2 like a Steam Deck or ROG Ally, controllers staying right on the device while the picture runs through the Viture glasses. Exactly what the original Joy-Cons don't allow in this setup.
If anyone is running a similar setup or has found a different solution, would love to hear it 😊
